My Bio

Just the typical Aussie jack-of-all-trades. Sam grew up in the small tin mining and farming town of Ardlethan on the edge of the Riverina. Sam has worked in a lot of different jobs. Starting his working life as a butcher then worked for a transport company as a yard boy and moved up to become a local and interstate driver. He has driven most of the eastern capital routes as well as roadtrains on the Darwin run. He's been a storeman, a welder, a plastic moulder, even sold Tupperware, so you can see he's been around a bit. After seeing a Bush Poet at Tamworth Sam decided to try writing poems himself. The inspiration for his poems comes from life's experiences, the people he's met and the tales he's been told (all true of course). Sam performs his original works as well as work from traditional and modern poets with a preference for poems that are light hearted and humorous. His first book of original bush poetry "Things That Happen When You're Just Trucking About" was released at the 2002 Kempsey Country Music & Trucking Festival and has been received well by audiences. In 2003 Sam competed in the inaugural Cararra Bush Poets competition taking out a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in the novice section, a 2nd & 3rd in the open section. In 2005 Sam won Best Poet at the Holiday Coast Talent Quest at Wauchope. In 2003 Sam organised, co-ordinated and compered a new show he called Bush Poets & Balladeers at the Tamworth City Bowling Club over the ten days of the Tamworth Country Music Festival where the shows received great reviews from the audiences. Bush Poets & Balladeers has now run for the last five Tamworth Country Music Festivals, staging two shows daily and considered by many festival fans as a must see show. Sam organised and co-ordinated the 2004 & 2005 Kempsey Country Music & Trucking Festivals, both highly successful festivals. He also presents an Australian Country Music & Bush Poetry program on local community 103.1FM radio for the past five years. Look out for more from this talented performer at festivals, social clubs and other venues where Sam enthusiastically takes up the challenge of promoting entertaining Bush Poetry.
