My Bio

Marcia Burton was born at Salisbury NSW where she grew up on the family farm. She has loved country music all her life. Her brother Selvyn played and sang for parties etc, and Marcia used to sing with him. Together they wrote “Keep It Country”.

Marcia married Rodney Armfield. Rodney worked for the Railway Department, and soon had a transfer to Broken Hill, where their daughter Donna was born. Rodney got sick and was taken to Sydney, but he didn’t return. It was a very sad time for Marcia, and she then moved to Wauchope to live. This was in 1975.

Marcia responded to an advertisement in the Hastings Gazette for people interested in Country Music. She attended this meeting with 19 month old Donna on her knees.

It was at this meeting on the 4 March 1975 that a Country Music Club was to be formed. This came to fruition on the 8 October 1975 and was called “Hastings Country Music Club”.

Marcia has rarely missed a meeting or function that the HCMA has had since March 1975, and is the only Original Foundation member of the club who has remained continually active for all the years of the club’s existence. In 1988 she was presented with Life Membership.

Marcia has won many talent quests, including Best Female at Parkes in 1979, Dubbo in 1980 & 1981.

She released an EP in 1980 and a CD/Cassette of 5 tracks in 1994 called Killabakh Creek and another CD of 14 tracks in 2004 called Music’s Been My Life.

In March 1984 Marcia married Peter Wells. They did it in true country style, by getting married at “Poley’s Place” at Barrington NSW during a Country Music Campout Weekend.

In 1985 Marcia attended the very first meeting to see about establishing a “Hastings Community Radio” station, now known as 2 Way Fm 103.9. In due course Marcia along with daughter Donna, completed the Presenter’s Training Course and each received their certificates. Marcia then took part in the first test broadcast from the caravan at Pappinbarra in 1986.

Marcia worked very hard along with other volunteer workers to raise money to get the station started. Marcia’s reason for all this work!!!! She wanted to put Country Music to air on FM and therefore play her part in promoting Country Music. Before 2 Way FM was granted it’s licence, Marcia did 3 years presenting country music on 2 Bob FM in Taree from 1987 to 1991.

Marcia officially went to air on Saturday morning early in 1992 with her show called “Marcia’s Country.” She still has her own show, but now it’s on Mondays called “Where Country Is”

In June of 1996 Marcia went to America and Nashville, while in the USA she met her long time idol George Jones. They have kept in touch ever since. Marcia loved The States so much that in 2000 she talked Peter into going over there with her.

In 1997 she won an “Acubra Cedar Hat” for Radio Presenter at Kempsey’s All Star Festival.

Over the years Marcia has performed at many Country Music Shows, compared a lot and judged at many others. She has represented the HCMA heaps of times at various functions etc.

Marcia also spends lots of quality time with her adored grandaughter Jasmine. In amongst all this she has somehow found time to write a few songs too.

We can safely say that Country Music is alive and well while in Marcia’s hands, and it’s no wonder that Marcia is known as “Wauchope’s Queen Of Country”

Keep It Country
