Eliza Still Going Strong But With Throat Problems

G'day From Eliza.

Just letting you know what I have been up to. I have had to cut down my singing for a while. As I have had a throat problem for three months now.

But I seem to be getting on top of it now after many trips to doctors.
My dad and I went away to the Barmera Country Music Festival, and had five days in the wonderful Riverland.

Eliza Parker

I went in the talent quest and won one trophy, plus I did some busking for one day. I also did some songs on Chooka Williams Walk up show, and sang in the main street with Guido Davies. I also went in the karaoke competition at the Barmera Hotel Motel and got first place. Which was cool as I beat all the adults and won the prize money.

But I could not sing as much as I would have liked, as I have to watch my voice for a little while longer. After a little break, I have a talent quest to sing at. Then I will be a Guest Artist at the Slim Dusty Tribute Show at the Gawler Country Music Club. Then we are of to Mildura for the festival.

Were we hope to catch up with all our mates at Apex Caravan Park.

Regards.
Eliza Parker.

Slim Dusty Centre Construction Milestone

S D C-Walls up
Left to right, Steve Read - Director Slim Dusty Foundation, Dr David Kirkpatrick - Deputy Chairperson Slim Dusty Foundation, Ms Kathryn Yarnold - CEO Slim Dusty Foundation and Mr Bill Maley - Lahey’s Constructions.

The Slim Dusty Centre in Kempsey took a major step forward this week with the standing up of the external walls on the site. Initial clearing of the site commenced in December last year and the piers and footings were placed in February/March.

Local building contractors Lahey Constructions advise that all of the walls are expected to be stood up in position by the end of this month and then the roof framing will be attached. Completion of the Centre to lock up stage is expected by the end of the year and then the internal fit out of the centre will commence with the memorabilia collected by Slim throughout his lifetime being installed for exhibition.

CEO of the Slim Dusty Foundation Ms Kathryn Yarnold said “It is fantastic to see the progress of the construction from a dream to reality. So many people have contributed to enabling the Centre to reach this milestone and there is still so much to do. Once the construction phase has completed our Curators and 3D Designers can move into a dust free environment to install the exhibitions and assemble the collection to provide a fitting memorial to Slim as well as a much needed tourist attraction for Kempsey and the Mid North Coast region.”

“The aim is to develop internal displays to showcase the life of Slim Dusty and the values which Slim held as he travelled the land singing about his country and the Australian way of life. Exhibits in the Centre will make full use of innovative technology, with one of our main aims being to provide an exciting and informative contemporary visitor experience. The detailed process of design and development of these displays is already underway.”

The site of the Slim Dusty Centre is at the Southern approach to Kempsey and once the Kempsey Bypass is completed it will be located close to the highway interchange and provide a drawcard to encourage travelers to stop, and entice them into Kempsey.

Information of progress of the Centre will be posted to the web site www.slimdustycentre.com.au

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government and the Australian Federal Government through the Better Regions Program.

Country Music World Wide

Kenny Kitching Hank Sasaki & Tubby

“Tubby” Dyer’s “Bar-B-Q Country” show on Coast F/M and Today’s Country 94One has always enjoyed a diverse audience both here in Australia and overseas courtesy of the World Wide Web.
Back in 2003 Hank Sasaki, the Cowboy from Japan was introduced to his listening audience, and consequently made many visits Down-Under.

Recently, through the Hillcrest Compilations out of Canada, where many Aussie artists are festured, a singer from the Faroe Islands, Hallur Joensen was featured by “Tubby” (where the heck are the Faroes?? And as a result, D/J Petur Rouch contacted ‘Tubby” to advise him that many Aussie artists (Slim, Tex, Clelia Adams etc) are played over there.

Being an avid promoter of our music when overseas “Tubby” sent off various selections, and also some recorded “G’day messages” which will be featured in a special soon on Australian Country at Roots ‘n’ Rhythm in the Faroes (they are between Scotland and Denmark … middle of the Atlantic)
In town recently on his Planet Country tour Lee Kernaghan is adding to the list, along with his Dad Ray, so if you ever venture to this haven of tranquility “way out there”, be assured, Countery is alive and kicking.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the library there can contact: Petur Rouch, Roots ‘n’ Rhythm, Spogvavegur 51, Torshavn, FO-100, Faroe Islands, Denmark

Fiona Fields - Dance Sitting Down

Hey all-non-groovers! If your best efforts are the sprinkler and the shopping trolley on the dance floor, then you'll love my new single” says Fiona Fields.

Witty and squarely pegged at the boys, Fiona Fields newest single to radio, Dance Sitting Down is all about him and his flat footed dance grooves. ’He likes his country music up loud, and he likes to dance sitting down‘.

Fiona Fields

Reminiscent of a bluesy bar tune, Dance Sitting Down is the follow up single from Fiona‘s debut album, Good To Go. Hailing from the outer Western Suburbs of Sydney, Fiona is making a name for herself the old fashioned way, building a tribe of loyal fans in her local area. She successfully launched the album in Western Sydney, gigs in Western Sydney and gets plenty of support from fans proud to claim her as their own.

Fiona‘s introduction to country music was earlier this year when she was named a top twenty Toyota Star Maker Finalist and then followed up with a single release to radio and film clip for ’Dirt‘. (Dirt has just re-entered the CMC Top 50 Chart).

Described as “shaken, stirred and served with an ample slice of wit”, (Matt Lawrence, Capital News) Fiona is fast establishing a trade mark sound that is rocky, contemporary and original. Between loads of radio interviews, album of the week highlights and special guest appearances including the fundraiser for Good Morning Country at the Blacktown Country Music Club last month, she is shooting the film clip for Dance Sitting Down at the local Penrith Country Music Club where the locals are getting behind her and keen to spread the word on Fiona further afield.

Second Chance For Sydney Contestants To Get To The
Junior Saddles Final In Central Coast On 4th July.

The winner takes away $1,000 cash & they will also perform at the prestigious Golden Saddles Concert & Awards, that night.
