Jamie Davis – JD
From Kross Kut Records
Your’s truly was on the Gold Coast at the weekend, and I called in to visit Krss Kut Records. I’d promised Waddo a long time ago that I would do just that, … so promise finally fulfilled I was pleased I did, I was most impressed with the studio layout (built by our own “musical” builder Ken “Chainsaw” Lindsay) it was interesting for me to finally see what these two specialists came up with. |
 |
I’d heard a lot of and was impressed with, the albums that came out of there so it was good to see where they were coming from.
Not only did I finally get to see the studio, but I walked away with one of the latest productions from there & was again impressed with the quality of it too. This one is Jamie Davis.
Recorded & Produced at Kross Kut Records by Lindsay “Waddo” Waddington this is a great album of cover songs. Jamie does them all well & I had a very enjoyable time listening to it.
The Musicians on this recording are Lindsay “Waddo” Waddington, Charley Boyter, Kelvin Nolan, Grant Hart, Hugh Curtis, Russel Stork, Neil Butler, and Laurie Minson, …. Now with names like that you could hardly go wrong could you!

Adam Harvey & Beccy Cole Tour

Adam Harvey, Dennis "Doc" Costigan & Beccy Cole
at Port Panthers on Friday night
Adam & Beccy were happy with the response they received at Port Panthers (Port Macquarie) last Friday night. The large crowd loved them & were pleased to see them back in town again. They certainly put on a wonderful show & anybody who missed them on this tour really did miss out.
Your’s truly had a live interview lined up with Adam but he had a little hold up on the way so he was running a little late. Never mind he made it in time for a short interview and promises it will be longer next time.
Note that Adam will be doing a tour with Wendy Matthews in June, so keep your eye out for that one.

Adam Harvey Announces Tour With Wendy Matthews
7 times Golden Guitar winner Adam Harvey and 7 times Aria award winner Wendy Matthews team up for the first time on the 'Both Sides' 2010 tour.
Adam and Wendy met on the set of the hit television series "It Takes Two" in 2008 and have since recorded the single 'Easy' released through Sony Music on March 5. The video clip will be aired on CMC through March, April and May on high rotation and the single is already top 5 on the CMC Chart!
|
 |
Adam's new album 'Both Sides Now' is his highest debut album to date charting nationally on the ARIA Charts at No. 19. The 1st single off the album 'King of the Road' with John Williamson went No. 1 on the CMC Chart, Single 2 'Stuck in the Middle' with Guy Sebastian also went No. 1. There will be a limited edition tour pack from March 12 to compliment the tour.
Road tested at the Tamworth Country Music Festival with Guy Sebastian, Gina Jeffreys and James Blundell, Wendy and Adam blew everyone away with their performance. This show was a sell out and a highlight of the Festival.
The 'Both Sides' tour will consist of Adam Harvey performing individually, as will Wendy Matthews, and then coming together on stage to perform duets from the album and some new ones as well. This show is a real mix of Australia's cream of country and pop teaming up for one brilliant show.

Kris Katsanis Departs Compass Bros
Compass Bros Records publicist Kris Katsanis will depart the label effective tomorrow, Wednesday April 28th.
Kris joined Compass Bros in 2005 co-ordinating publicity for all CBR artists including Adam Brand, The Sunny Cowgirls and James Blundell.
"KK has been an integral member of the Compass Bros family for five years. She's made a significant contribution to the success of the label and will be sorely missed." says CB founder and managing director Graham Thompson.
"It's no news to anyone that CD sales have decreased significantly over the last few years and no secret that this ongoing trend continues to take its toll on the record industry, in particular independent labels. The impact of this shrinking market is forcing Compass Bros to evolve from the traditional model of a record company that funds, produces, markets, promotes and distributes music to one that assists artists to market and distribute recordings funded by other means. Unfortunately there isn’t a role for a full time publicist at this stage in the evolution of the company."
The good news is that Kris has established her own independent publicity company KrisKat Publicity and will continue to work within the country music industry.
Kris can be contacted at E: kriskatpublicity@gmail.com M: 0414 334 348
From this Thursday all general Compass Bros enquiries should be directed to Graham Thompson: graham@compassbros.com.au Ph: 02 4284 2002 and all accounts enquiries to Bernie Saxby: bernie@compassbros.com.au Ph: 0407 127 313

Calling Me Home – The Best Of Sara Storer is released on April 30, 2010

Sara's Bio
Talk to people about Sara Storer and the same words keep being used: ‘real’, ‘unaffected’, ‘authentic’. It’s partly a way of acknowledging that she’s lived the life she sings about – growing up on a farm in Victoria’s Mallee, her grandfather a pioneer of the district, then teaching in tiny bush towns in Queensland and the Northern Territory.
But authenticity alone doesn’t make a great artist. Sara has a hungry writer’s eye, her songs full of vivid, telling moments and narratives that seem to drop the listener into a freshly minted world. The voice that tells these tales is open and unguarded; the music seductive yet energised. Her songs speak with great directness and immediacy, as if we had found
|
 |
ourselves on the road, or round the campfire, with the characters of the song.
Some songwriters take their inspirations from other songs; with Sara, the starting point is more often a scene torn directly from life. Her first song, ‘Buffallo Bill’, is typical: the story drawn from a retired buffalo shooter she met when working in a truck stop in the small Queensland town of Camooweal. She gave him the song as you would a gift, saw the tears it brought forth from the old man, and started to understand the power of song.
Soon she moved to the Territory, teaching in Kalkaringi, an Aboriginal settlement 500km south west of Katherine. There she developed her songwriting and began to play for friends – at parties and around campfires. A friend encouraged her to enter a talent quest at the town of Adelaide River, a dot in the red dirt of the far north. The ‘encouragement prize’ was a workshop at the Australian College of Country Music, held in the weeks leading up to the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Sara took the two-week course in January 2000. Just four years later, she was back at the same festival – and won more awards in a single festival than anyone before or since: seven Golden Guitars.
She’d been busy, of course, during those intervening four years. When she first went to Tamworth, with her ticket from Adelaide River, she met the record producer Garth Porter. Garth recorded six of her songs and introduced her to ABC Music, who quickly signed the young artist. Her first album, Chasing Buffalo, came out later that year, producing three number one singles on the country charts – starting with ‘Buffalo Bill’.
Sara won the Best New Talent award at the 2001 Country Music Awards, and then – in 2002 – released her second album Beautiful Circle, this time with the stand-out song ‘Raining on the Plain’, a duet with John Williamson. By 2004, with that record haul of Golden Guitars, there was no stopping her. Two more acclaimed albums followed – Firefly (2005) and Silver Skies (2007) – and now the one you hold in your hands.
Paul Kelly, Australia’s master-songwriter, may have best captured her unique talent: ‘You know she’s paid attention,’ he says, ‘heard the bush waking up in the morning, listened to the worries thrashed out at the kitchen table, smelt dry summer wheat up close, dreamed of far away places in a bedroom with a window on a big sky, driven miles on dirt and bitumen and fallen in and out of love. She’s found her own way to sing the stories that are all around her and then inside her bubbling out. She doesn’t copy over-emotive, fake sincere twangy country singers from overseas. She’s found her own restraint and steel and lets her songs do their sweet, sly work.’
Let the sweet, sly work begin; press ‘play’ on Calling Me Home and let Sara Storer tell you a tale.
– Richard Glover, presenter of Drive, 702 ABC Sydney
“Sara has a unique way of seeing and expressing her observations of love and life in the bush. So she is a songwriter who will be remembered beyond her lifetime,” says iconic bush balladeer John Williamson.

Michael Fix News
Hello everyone,
I had a fantastic time in Germany presenting Maton guitar workshops & performing at the Frankfurt Music Messe, one of the largest music trade shows in the world.
I'm back home in Brisbane now, preparing for the next round of |
 |
concerts, including some shows close to home.
First, some news items: I'm pleased to report that I'm a finalist in the Qld CM awards for "Best Instrumental" - Light at the end of the Tunnel. Winners are announced next Friday, April 30th in Charters Towers, Qld.
Late last year I recorded an instructional DVD for Acoustic Music Records, (my CD distributor in Europe) and this DVD/book is now available. You can check it out, and order it direct from the Acoustic Music website
In the DVD I breakdown 2 of my tunes Two Left Feet, and Stringin' the Blues. I present it in both English and German - aren't I clever!
There's quite a few shows coming up in May, and I'm particularly looking forward to a series of concerts with multi-instrumentalist Paul Burton.
Paul & I used to tour together as part of Graeme Connors' touring band, & we've remained close friends ever since. Paul has a duo partner - Andrew Toner - a fantastic young guitar player. We are planning a show which combines great entertainment, variety, and musical virtuosity!

Mark Chesnutt's Outlaw Streets June 22nd
A Compilation Of His Favorites From His Heroes
Mark Chesnutt has un-cinched a new collection of All-American, all-time favorite, whiskey-soaked standards in his 14th studio album, Outlaw, which streets June 22nd.
Saguaro Road Records, which is also home to Patty Loveless, Tanya |
 |
Tucker and Collin Raye, gets in some cool music--this time from Mark Chesnutt. This one, however, is different for Mark, because it features songs from some of her personal heroes and life-long friends, including Billy Joe Shaver, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings.
Mark says, “When I was first approached to record this CD, my reaction wasn’t just ‘yes,’ but ‘hell, yeah,’! I cut my teeth on this kind of music and it’s an opportunity [that might not have otherwise presented itself] for me to pay tribute to some of my biggest heroes in country music.”
Those who were in Denver at the famed Grizzly Rose that night in 1993 remember when Mark just "showed up" and sang with the band that was on-stage that night.
Folks were requesting "Mark Chesnutt songs", to which Mark replied, "That's boring!" Then, he wailed some incredible renditions of tunes from Waylon, Merle and Willie. The crowd was stunned! The music was fantastic!
