Walter Follows In The Footsteps Of “The King” For US Success
A Millisle man is following in the footsteps of “The King”, by embarking on a musical odyssey he hopes will take the US by storm.
For songwriter Walter Cunningham has joined forces with American singer Donny Richmond and Presley’s backing singers, the Jordanaires, to launch a new album.
Walter & Danny are putting together an entire collection of Walter’s songs for release throughout the world, beginning in Ireland. Every song |
 |
of the project is a Walter Cunningham composition.
The first single from this collection, which is now on release, is “King Of O’Connell Street” about the famous Dublin street.
The album to follow is entitled “Love To Ireland”, the title of which also expresses Donny’s love for Ireland. Donny plans to travel to Northern and Southern Ireland for personal appearances.
He says he is looking forward to the release of this project more than any previous release of his career. “I believe God has put this together,” he says.
“Walter’s songs are fantastic, and the timing of how this has come together is something I could never have predicted,” he adds.
Walter, whose songs have now been recorded by several artists, also counts this as the biggest milestone of his songwriting career, saying, “Donny is a knockout singer – this is my biggest career achievement.”
This joint project between the two men who live on either side of the Atlantic Ocean had an unlikely beginning.
Walter was at home watching a new Christmas TV Special from America when he noticed the featured singer was backed by a large collection of Elvis Presley’s original musicians.
Being a huge fan of Elvis, and recognising that this gathering was quite unique, Walter was intrigued. When the Special was over, a phone number for the American production company was listed, and Walter promptly placed a phone call to learn more.
Walter who had been writing songs for some time, volunteered to send some to the American artist, Donny Richmond.
Upon receiving the songs, Donny immediately set out to record them, and the rest is history in the making.
Upon Walter’s request, Donny brought into the studio Elvis Presley’s backing singers, The Joardanaires, to add the finishing touches.
Since that time in 2006, several of those songs have been released worldwide, reaching high into the Country Music and Gospel Music charts. They have topped those charts in Italy and Austria, reached number two in Belgium, the Chez Republic and the European Top 10, number three in Norway and Sweden, number five in the European Christian chart and number six in the UK.
Donny who is a recording and TV star in his native US has also performed Walter Cunningham compositions on TV in America.
His list of awards and accolades is extensive, including Artist of the Decade and Entertainer of the Year six times. He has appeared at the Grand Ole Opry.

About Donny Richmond

Donny Richmond & The Jordanaires
Donny Richmond is a Country Music Entertainer whose vast audience appeal and versatility in his music, and whose dedication to his faith and values, is now affecting pop culture internationally. Donny Richmond is the current Country Gospel Music Association Artist Of The Decade and the International Country Gospel Music Association Entertainer Of The Decade.
In fact, entertaining has been a way of life for Donny since he was a child. His winning smile, pleasing personality and healthy appearance helped Donny win a contest to pose for a milk advertisement when he was a baby. Donny was just four years old when he began singing for the neighbours around the kids' swings in the backyard. In the second grade, if it rained and the class couldn't go outdoors for recess, the teacher would call on Donny to sing.
Richmond grew up in the suburbs of Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C. In Junior and Senior High School, he became interested in writing songs and wearing "dude" clothes; and would entertain his classmates. Donny sang at his own Senior Prom, wearing an "outlandish gold outfit, including gold sparkle shoes."
After high school and while appearing with bands at night, Donny attended college by day, studying music and acting. In 1992, while visiting Nashville, Richmond was invited to appear on a special recording project with Stonewall Jackson, featuring many of the all-time top country music artists. Donny found himself in the recording studio alongside Garth Brooks.
Richmond moved to Nashville in 1993, and since that time has gone on to make history by charting both on the mainstream Country Music Charts and Christian/Country Gospel Charts simultaneously. While having many National 1 Country Gospel songs and winning a host of Music Association Awards, Richmond has also clocked up an extremely impressive list of television appearances, including his own "The Don Richmond Show," which had its beginnings in September 1997 for the Christian Television Network in Nashville, Tennessee, and has been viewed by millions in the 9 years since. In 2001, Donny Richmond's Christmas video, "Heartbreak Holiday," was a smashing hit on American National Country Music Television Networks, including Great American Country (GAC) and VH-1. It has continued to receive airplay each Christmas season, and is now regarded by many as a classic. "Heartbreak Holiday" also led to the Christmas 2005 short feature film of the same name and starring Richmond, which drew rave reviews on American television. Donny has also been featured in Europe on Revelation TV. It is said that the best way to get to know the genuine warmth and sincerity of Donny Richmond is in his concerts. The wonderful response from European television audiences via Revelation TV has inspired Donny to release more material here, and he is even expressing interest in doing a European tour soon. As of July 2006, Donny Richmond has three songs simultaneously charting high internationally throughout Europe; "Jesus Is My Lifeline," which recently went 1 on both the Euro Christian and Euro Country Gospel Charts, "He Did It Because," currently ranking on the same chart, and "Next Times," which is climbing the European Country Music Charts, currently in Top 20 status. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE LIST OF DONNY RICHMOND'S AWARDS AND NOMINATIONS IS EXTENSIVE The Current ARTIST OF THE DECADE Awarded by the COUNTRY GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION The current ENTERTAINER OF THE DECADE Awarded by the INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION Recipient of many other Top Awards for MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR, SONGWRITER, PRODUCER and TOP INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY GOSPEL TV PERSONALITY 6-time Country Gospel ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR 3-times nominated for NATIONAL TNN/NASHVILLE NETWORK MUSIC AWARDS Awarded HONORARY "COLONEL" by the Governor of Tennessee Many 1 Christian Chart Hits and Holder of these All-Time Records (GOSPEL VOICE MAGAZINE): Longest Running 1 Chart Streak (5 straight months) NOTE: When "JESUS IS MY LIFELINE" entered its 1 spot, it replaced another Richmond 1, "WHAT WILL HE SAY." Songs in EVERY Top 10 Chart for an entire year--two songs in the Top 5 simultaneously. Performances include THE GRAND OLE OPRY where, among other awards, Richmond was presented with Stonewall Jackson THE LEGENDARY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD for their duet, "JESUS IS MY LIFELINE," the longest-running 1 Christian Country Chart Song of all time (4 months). Numerous television appearances, including nationally: Great American Country Network (GAC), The Nashville Network (TNN), Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), Gospel Music Television, MTV/VH-1, Blue Highways TV, Europe's Revelation TV and host of his own syndicated and Christian Television Network Program, "The Don Richmond Show."
Since 2006 we've had several releases throughout the world that have done very well - by the ECMA, we have charted at #1 in more than 10 countries. This past Christmas (2009), "That's What Christmas Means" (with All-Star backup) went #1 on the NCM Euro Christmas chart in it's first week of release.
Our 2009 Christmas TV Special aired in major portions of the world. As of 2010, our Music Videos and TV Specials have now aired nationally throughout the U.S., in Europe, Canada, Australia (on Australian Christian Channel), New Zealand, Caribbean countries, South Pacific Islands, and more.
Of course, we're putting major emphasis now on the Project with Walter - which is my favourite Album ever!!

Exciting Times For Jay Scott Berry

G'day Everyone,
Greetings from the beautiful Little Run Valley in Australia. The first traces of Autumn have setted in and I've been out chopping wood, preparing for Winter. Our lovely daughter, Mikaela is almost 3 now and the new arrival, Tristan Daniel, is due next month.
First off, I'd like to express my sincere thanks to all the DJs for the generous international airplay. I truly appreciate your support. A special thank you also goes out to Rhonnie and her great team at Rhonbob Promotions who have worked tirelessly in promoting my music. Finally, a hearty thanks to Dixie at Triplestrand, whose compilation CDs have helped get the music to your doors. As a direct result of the support you've all shown, I'm very happy to announce two international tours coming up this year. The first kicks off in May with shows in Macau and Hong Kong. From there it's on to the USA for a quick coast-to-coast tour, then to Kuala Lampur, returning to Australia in late June. In July and August, I'll be playing local concerts as well as the Hat's Off Festival in Tamworth and the Shindig in Wauchope. In September, it's off again to the US, where I've just been booked as a feature act on the Independent Country Stampede in Bandera, Texas. This event is produced by Lou Nelson and, I must say, I'm really looking forward to it. The historic town of Bandera is known as "The Cowboy Capital of the World".
While in the US, I'll be doing shows across the country, from Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe to Branson and Nashville. Following that, I'll be down in Mexico and then back to Asia again with concerts in Singapore, Bali, the Philippines and Thailand. Returning home, there should be a few weeks to regroup before heading down south for the Canberra Country Music Festival in Mid-November.
Now, somewhere in there, I'll do my best to record some new songs and videos. Rhonnie will make sure you get them, hot off the press!
At this point, the June tour is pretty well set, However, I still have dates open in September and October. If you'd like me to come out your way, please let me know and I'll do my best to arrange something. If I can't fit it in this year, I'll be out again in 2011 to New Zealand, Canada, the US and Europe.
You can email me directly: JSB@JayScottBerry.com and my website is constantly being updated with new pictures, links and all the tour details: www.JSBmusic.com
Hope to meet ya'll down the trail.
Cheers,

Amos Is Back In The Saddle After A Up And Down Year Last Year (personally) ,
With An Excellent New Album And Enthusiasm
Amos Morris - Life Goes On
Amos Morris has been hailed the hottest new up and coming country artist Australia has to offer. Following his 2009 Golden Guitar win for vocal collaboration along with Warren H Williams and John Williamson, |
 |
it appears Amos is well on his way to stardom.
He won his first Golden Guitar back in 2008 for the Anne Kirkpatrick produced album “Sign Of The Times” released on Nulla Records through EMI. Amos Morris’ live shows display his unique Aussie talent, featuring his own original songs and a tasty blend of country and blues licks on electric and acoustic guitar.
The new album “Life Goes On” takes his musical vision a step further with producer Bill Chambers encouraging Amos to broaden his style and play more guitar on his own recording. Apart from an old Hank Snow ballad and a Rockabilly version of Gordon Parsons “Blue Days and Dark Nights” the album highlights Amos’ own songs about his life experience.
Listening to the opening track “Come My Brothers” a perfect multicultural song for these times, one can’t help being drawn into a small part of Amos’ world and taking away a new insight into this delicate topic.
Life indeed does go on for Amos Morris, while the new album seems set to take him down new roads and broader horizons.

Take You Partners, The Bushwackers Are Off To A Country Ball

The Bushwackers will join fellow high profile Country entertainers, Golden Guitar winners and members of the Slim Dusty Family to help celebrate 'The Slim Dusty Country Ball' from 6:30pm at the Westin Hotel Sydney on Wednesday 31st March 2010.
The Bushwackers are long time members of the country music fraternity and recall the day back in 1981 when they won their first Golden Guitar award, alongside the two Golden Guitar Awards Slim Dusty won that year. Almost thirty years on, The Bushwackers are delighted to be keeping the memory of Slim Dusty, Australian Legend alive.
Slim joined The Bushwackers onstage for a performance of ’When The Rain Tumbles Down In July‘ on their Jubilee concert in 1995 alongside Tommy Emmanuel and Lee Kernaghan.
“We weren‘t fully rehearsed at all“ laughs Dobe “we didn‘t know if Slim would make it until the last hour before the show, but it worked out wonderfully and it‘s a classic moment in country music history” This performance was captured in all its glory and is a favourite on the The Bushwackers You Tube Channel
Long before Golden Guitars and in the infancy of The Bushwackers in the 1970‘s, Slim was looking for a band to back him on tour and made a few overtures to The Bushwackers. Some very wise members of the band , now long gone, thought Slim mightn‘t have had much of a career ahead of him and the band, with great foresight, declined the offer!! Of course both Slim Dusty and The Bushwackers went on to enjoy separate careers.
With all proceeds going towards the foundation, and in the true spirit of country hospitality, The Bushwackers are looking forward to getting some very special guest up on their feet, including host of the evening, Ray Hadley OAM, and Foundation Patrons, Alan Jones AO, John Singleton AM, Dick Smith and Lee Kernaghan, OAM for some toe-tapping, dust-biting dancing.
'The Slim Dusty Country Ball' will be a tribute to Slim Dusty AO MBE in aid of the Slim Dusty Foundation Ltd.

Other Anzac Day …Song For ALL Australians
Synonymous as the AFL’s Anzac Day blockbuster fixture is with that hallowed occasion it is neither our only Anzac Day nor only commemorative Australian Rules football match of the occasion! For in the small northern French town of Villers-Bretonneux.... home to Australia’s OTHER Anzac Day, a scratch match of Australian Rules football is also part of the commemorations in that far-off part of the world.
This previously unsung OTHER Anzac Day is now the subject of song... in the form of Other Anzac Day... song for ALL Australians released for national airplay by niche Oakleigh South (Vic) independent Country Music label House of Quality.
Stumbling upon this amazing story coming from the car radio while driving in the pre-dawn hours of Anzac Day 2008 it has been a vision almost two years in the realisation for executive producer Jeffrey Laws. Scrambling through internet search the same day he says: ‘The more I looked the more amazing the story became.
Revered on the other side of the world yet neglected at home, a small French village where the children still sing Waltzing Matilda, Rue de Melbourne their main street, our kangaroo their emblem and ‘Never forget Australia’ their motto... plus an epic defining Diggers victory three years to the day after the heroic debacle of Gallipoli, decribed by a British general as ‘perhaps the greatest single feat of the war’. Altogether a major missing cornerstone of national heritage demanding a national interest song’.
Calling upon the songsmith talent of colleague Norm Burke of Endeavour Hills, twice heritage songwriter of the year award winner, Norms’s challenge was to write a ‘finest hour’ song in the flavour of those many Australian pilgrim age tourists to the WWI Western Front battlefields. Says Jeff ‘Norm actually penned better than that because as well as a friendship song of the forever bonds of French pilgrimage song he’s also crafted a fraternity’.
Outsourcing the producer’s palette to the Melbourne studio whose credits include the music of Baz Luhrmann’s screen epic Australia and the call-up of new talent singing discovery Steve Shorten brought the song to full fruition. Says Jeff ‘Steve’s strong vocals over the French accented arrangement blend the right balance of blundstone and le style fit for a song of this significance’.

Dollywood: 25 Years Of Big Dreams
By Terry Morrow • Knoxville News Sentinel • March 29, 2010
Pigeon Forge — Dolly Parton won't be intimidated.
Over the 25 seasons Dollywood has been open for business, Parton says she's learned the art of self-confidence and collaboration when she enters a boardroom to face executives who may know more than she does about the theme park business.
"I love walking into (a boardroom) with a bunch of men. I think: 'Oh, this is cool. They don't scare me,' because I've got bigger dreams than they do," the country superstar said in a recent interview. "The fact that I'm allowed to get in there with them and dream with the best of them — and that they respect and appreciate me — means a lot. I learn from every great person I meet. I try to see what makes (that executive) so successful and learn from that."
That approach has certainly helped Dollywood, her theme park opening for its 25th season. Dollywood is Tennessee's No. 1 paid attraction and the second biggest attraction in Sevier County next to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Annually, Dollywood draws 2.3 million guests.

Roger Miller's Widow Wins Court Fight Over 1964 Hits
By Sheila Burke • Associated Press • March 23, 2010
The widow of country music legend Roger Miller has won a protracted legal battle over the rights to some of his biggest hits, including "King of the Road.''
A federal judge ruled Thursday that Mary Miller and Roger Miller Music Inc. own the copyrights to the songs the artist published in 1964. Those songs also include: "Dang Me,'' "Chug-A-Lug'' and "You Can't Roller |

Skate in a Buffalo Herd.''
U.S. District Judge William J. Haynes also said in a written order that the widow and the company are entitled to about $900,000 for royalties they should have received.
Miller died from cancer in 1992 at the age of 56.
"King of the Road'' was his biggest hit, topping the country and pop charts. He also received critical acclaim for acting in and writing the lyrics and music to the Tony-award winning Broadway musical Big River.
"We're thrilled,'' John Griffin, an attorney who represented the widow, said of the judge's decision. "It's been a long time coming.''
Mary Miller and Roger Miller Music sued Sony/ATV Publishing in 2004 claiming that the right of renewal of the original copyrights for songs from 1958-64 went to her. At the time of Miller's death, copyrights expired after 28 years and had to be renewed.
Renewal Rights Divided
The district court ruled in July 2005 that Sony owned the renewal copyrights to Miller's 1958-1963 songs and owned an implied right to the songs in 1964. The widow appealed the ruling to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The appellate court ruled that Sony owned the rights to the songs from 1958-63, but asked the lower court to consider whether the publisher held the rights to the 1964 songs.
The widow maintained that she had a right to the songs from 1964 because her husband didn't live to the beginning of the copyright renewal period. Had he not died in 1992, Griffin said, Sony would have the rights to the songs of 1964.
Roger Miller was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1995, three years after his death.
Calls to Sony and one of its lawyers were not immediately returned Monday.
