‘Where The Eagles Fly’
Brothers 3 debut CD release took place at the Canberra Country Music Festival on 9-11 October 2009. This dynamic trio have been performing their diverse and material to their fans across Australia with great success. |
 |
These young boys have a wealth of stage experience having worked with John Williamson, Warren Williams and Darren Cogan. Shardyn playedYoung Peter in Hugh Jackman’s Arena tour of The Boy from Oz. Between them they have appeared in films, TV Series and countless TVCs. Some of these include Son of the Mask, Hell has Harbour Views, Cavalaria Rosticana/Pagliacci (Tayzin: 13yrs), Quambatook, Black Balloon, Happy Feet (Makirum: 12 yrs) and Farscape, Home and Away, My Place (Shardyn: 14 yrs).
‘These boys have harmonies that rock. They are not just a boy band that sings. They also are talented musicians who can play a variety of instruments (guitar/keyboards/banjo/trumpet/clarinet). Their unique country/pop sound rings true to the country ethos and is truly exciting.
(Hardrush Music, 2009)
Brothers 3 album Where The Eagles Fly features 10 original country titles that the boys’ co wrote on their farm in the Central Western Slopes. Brothers 3 have already attracted major interest from various media and are headlining at Country Festivals across the country. Their original material was engineered by Ben Robertson of Robertson Brothers Studios and is distributed by Hardrush Music.
Brothers 3 single Road To Carcalgong is being progressively rolled out to retailers and will be available from leading digital download outlets, including iTunes, in mid –October. The album Where The Eagles Fly was out in early December.

I had the pleasure of meeting these charming young lads (along with their parents) the other day for the purpose of doing an interview with them for radio. I have to tell you I was impressed with their warm friendly attitude, good manners, and intelligent conversation.
Equally I was also very impressed with the quality of their cd and the talent that they all possess. I am sure we will be hearing a lot more of these young brothers. "Road To Carcalgong" is their first single and is doing very well for them.
All the tracks were written by the boys and "Where The Eagles Fly" saw them get into the final top 6 of the childrens section of the TSA Awards, where they were up against adult writers, so they did well to get into the finals at all.
The tracks on the album are
01 Road To Carcalgong
02 A Simple Song
03 Bushwacking Rangers
04 Where The Eagles Fly
05 Leaving Home Now

Feedback re Forum & Media Response Tamworth Country Music Festival
Hi Joy.....Hope you had a great Festival as we all did.
Well, we had over 250 Country music fans and artists attend our Forum at the Family Hotel on Thursday the 21st Jan 2010. 99% agreed that the Festival issues needed to be addressed and that the powers to be listen to the voices of those who own the Tamworth Country Music Festival. That is the Fans, Artists, Local Business, Pubs & Clubs, Local Media and all stakeholders that support Country Music in the wonderful city of Tamworth. |

|
The Powers to be are The Lord Mayor & Councillors of Tamworth City, Country Music Association of Australia, Tourism Tamworth, Event Promoters NSW State Government bodies associated with the Festival. A partition was signed by attendees at the Forum supporting the positives and issues that most agree need addressing.
They are in no order of preference: 1. That Australia Day Celebrations be included in the calendar dates of the Festival; 2. Mainstage Acts/Promotions be restricted to Country Music format and other alternate musical genres be played at selected other lesser venues. 3. The costs of attending the festival be seriously looked at whereas accommodation costs at most motels is out of the reach of the average family, Caravan Parks & Camping costs are inflated at Festival time and the Price of food & drink mysteriously rises and finally the inflated prices of most ticketed shows. 4. The over regulating enforced by the police and Security i.e. over frequented visits by riot clad constabulary into the precincts of Clubs & Pubs during performance and leisure times. 5. Street Busking to be properly controlled & sound levels regulated so as everyone gets a fair go, not just those with the loudest amplifiers etc.
I believe the response from the Forum is responsible and positive feedback. It is not what the Cr Treloar would have us believe (political ramblings) as being unsubstantiated reports, idiotic rumours, created by people trying to destabilise the Tamworth Country Music Festival to suit their own agendas.
What Agendas, I ask..Have we lost the right to Freedom of Speech in our Great Country. No Mr Mayor, I am not a trouble maker nor am I misleading the public or other performers with a scare campaign. I am a patriotic Australian who lives and performs Country Music and I will defend my right to do whatever it takes to preserve Country Music's heritage and it's future in the home of Country Music. And Mr Laing (President of CMMA) is intimating that certain people are trying to change the format and that is ludicrous....It is Ludicrous that some of our Mainstream Stage is being occupied by the likes of Guy Sebastian, Ross Wilson etc etc. You would not find Lee Kernigan or Troy Cassar-Daley mainstaging the Byron Bay Jazz Festival. No No No!!!!! .
Personally I like Guy's music but let him come in May/June and bring his friends with him then and not hang off the shirt tails of our Tamworth Country Music Festival. Or let them play for lesser $$$$ (Not $54 per ticket) in the lesser venues. Whatever their performance fees are, I bet not too much of that remains in the local business coffers of Tamworth.
Tamworth City Councillors, CMMA Board member Rod McCormack, Peer Group Melanie Zammit, Rebel Thomson from Tourism Tamworth were all invited to come to the Forum and speak about the future of the Festival....Sadly I did not see any of them there.....Maybe that has something to do with that word Agenda ????
One positive to come out of all this is that the Powers to be maybe,? are finally listening and we have an assurance to preserve the image and theme of the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival as just that....Country. We can all live in hope that this promise is kept and we can enjoy the future festivals.
Finally I would like to say that the opinions expressed in this letter are totally mine and The Family Hotel or the Pub Group were not part of the Forum as such. However I would like to inform all Fans and performers that the Pub Group generously support Country Music all year round at their four venues. We thank them for that.
Cheers Dennis (Fibber) Parker - Fibber's Ave A Go Show.

Tamworth Country Music Blueprint
Dear Joy - thank you to everyone who attended the 2010 Tamworth Country Music Festival. This event relies on the support of hundreds of artists, thousands of visitors and, the business and community of Tamworth to conduct the event.
I can assure you the Tamworth Country Music Festival will remain just that, our aim is to build the event with more events, more people and more investment in the event and our community. It would be appreciated if you would include with this note the Fact Sheet below about the project.
We are currently in a large consultation phase for the project which commenced in September and which is to conclude at the end of February. It is important if you have views, comments or suggestions on the future of the Tamworth Country Music Festival that you forward them on to r.thomson@tamworth.nsw.gov.au or fax to (02) 67675312.
All comments, views, suggestions are welcome and the extent of comments is exciting for the development of a blueprint. Again my thanks to everyone for a great festival
Rebel Thomson
‘A Blueprint For The Future’
What is it?
We are developing a Blueprint for the future of our Tamworth Country Music Festival.
This will be two major documents – a Strategic Plan and a Business Plan. These documents are to be completed by the end of March 2010.
Who is doing it?
Development of the documents is being managed by Tourism Tamworth Ltd.
The party’s involved are; Events NSW, Tamworth Regional Council, Tourism Tamworth and the Country Music Association of Australia.
A company called Peer Group Media has been contracted to Tourism Tamworth to provide business and commercial advice and facilitate the process.
What are you doing?
We are collecting everyone’s information about the Tamworth Country Music Festival, its history.
This includes gathering information about; the music, the management, the events, the commercial activities, marketing and promotions. The stories about what is good and what is
not so good about the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
In addition, we are trying to understand visitor and resident expectations.
This will help us to formulate the plans and recommendations for the future growth of the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
We are trying to make sure everyone’s interests are aligned.
Why are you doing this?
The Tamworth Country Music Festival is one of the largest events in Australia; it has been nationally and internationally recognised as one of the top 10 festivals in the world.
We want to grow the profile of the Tamworth Country Music Festival, bring more people to the Tamworth Region and get more investment in our region and our community.
Tamworth is the ‘Country Music Capital of Australia’ and we want to keep it that way.
What will change?
A Blueprint will provide recommendations to take the Tamworth Country Music Festival to
new audiences, evolve into new visitor markets, create new events and introduce a whole new generation of Country Music fans to Tamworth and the region.
Can anyone be involved?
The Tamworth Country Music Festival belongs to everyone. The whole community should be involved.
If you want more information contact Rebel Thomson at Tourism Tamworth on (02) 67675300 or email r.thomson@tamworth.nsw.gov.au and get involved.

Governor-General Salutes John Williamson’s 40th Year
Thursday 21st January 2010: John Williamson was today honoured in Tamworth by Her Excellency, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, Governor-General for his forty years in the entertainment industry. In the midst of the annual country music festival, the Governor-General presented the TRUE |
 |
BLUE Williamson with a special glass-etched award for his milestone year congratulating him on his achievement.
The function, held in the country music capital, also saw John Williamson presented with a Gold Record for his sales of 2008 album release ‘HILLBILLY ROAD’ from EMI Chief Executive Officer, Mark Poston.
The Governor-General recognized the iconic songwriter through the presentation of the etched plaque in front of family, friends, colleagues and media.
In her speech she recognised his importance to the country, his contribution in vocalising so descriptively the land and his passion for the country.
During his introduction, Mark Poston - SVP Marketing, Australasia & Country Chairman Australasia EMI said, “Everyone at EMI is proud to be associated with John Williamson. EMI is a music company built on an incredible lineage - from The Beatles to The Beach Boys to Coldplay and Slim Dusty - and all that’s in between. John Williamson stands alongside those iconic artists as one of Australia’s finest. Congratulations from us all John for another Gold record with HILLBILLY ROAD and looking forward to a big year ahead for your 40th anniversary year in the business”.
Williamson, who was unaware of planned presentations and the Governor-General’s intended presence at the function, was grateful and humbled by the double presentation.
“From the Mallee to Croppa Creek and all around our country, I have been inspired by the land, characters and stories before me. HILLBILLY ROAD was a personal album, one that flowed so easily from me and to have my fans enjoy it as much as I did is such a reward. Here now, 40 Years in the industry and to be recognised so publicly is an honour. I am grateful to all who have supported, worked with or stood beside me, thank you,” said John Williamson after the presentation.

Busy Tamworth For Tori
After an outstanding 2009, Country Music singer/songwriter Tori Darke continued to shine at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, winning the NSW New Talent Of The Year, Golden Medalion Award. (WARP – World Alliance for Radio Presenters).
“It has been an amazing Tamworth Festival for me this year. Performing onstage at the Entertainment Centre in the Grand Finals of both Toyota Star Maker and Telstra Road To Tamworth, with some of the industry’s highest regarded musicians was simply awesome. Being named as a Top5 Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist and Runner-Up in the Telstra |

|
Road To Tamworth Songwriting Grand Final was an incredible honor.”
This was Tori’s busiest Tamworth Festival yet, with performances at The Maton Showcase, The Young Guns Concert, plus her major performance to a packed house at the New Capital Theatre as support act for Melbourne based band Jetty Road. Tori finished off the festival by rocking the house out to a fantastic crowd at the Central Hotel.
The Australian College of Country Music and the Camerata School of Country Music have now merged to create the new CMAA Australian Academy of Country Music.
Having graduated from Camerata in 2008 and the Senior College in 2009, Tori was asked to speak with the NSW Premier Kristina Keneally after the announcement of a $33,000 funding for five scholarships to the new Academy, which was definitely a highlight. During their conversation, Ms Keneally asked Tori how she had benefited from her experiences at both Camerata and at the Senior College:
“It was inspirational to have attended both the Camerata College and the CMAA College of Country Music. Having access to and learning from some of the best in the industry, including Troy Cassar-Daley and Felicity Urquhart, who helped form the foundation to encourage young up-and-coming artists to enter the college, gave me the opportunity to be involved in Toyota Star Maker and Telstra Road To Tamworth. The educational structure of the program was a great learning curve, one which I have benefited from immensely”, says Tori.
In 2010, Tori plans to visit Nashville for more songwriting and pre-production work on her forthcoming debut album.

Rock And Roll Legend Roy Orbison To Receive Star On Hollywoods Walk Of Fame January 29, 2010
On January 29, 2010 Rock and Roll legend Roy Orbison will receive his Star on the Walk Of Fame.
Roy Orbison was one of the very first international stars, and was a household name by the time he was 21. Loved the world over for a soaring 5 octave voice, and his incredible and innovative way of writing songs, Orbison was an artist without limits. Orbison is one of the very |
 |
few artists to have been accepted by the world in all forms of popular music, and Roy is one of the exceptional artists to have won Grammys in pop, rock and roll and country categories.
Roy's career tells the story of rock and roll, having pioneered rock-a-billy, rock and roll, pop and country. Roy's music not only crossed all barriers, it broke them down. He brought rock and roll to Nashville, and these sounds were captured on vinyl and taken to England where they in turn inspired the British Invasion. Then, as the British bands took hold of the US charts, Roy was the only single artist to withstand it, ranking alongside the Beatles and the Stones, all artists who had opened for him as he toured internationally and all artists who remained friends.
Throughout Roy's career he would again and again Top the charts, and continue to inspire the new artists alongside the charts with him. The last decade of his life was no exception: The 80's saw Roy Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bruce Springsteen, who subsequently joined an all star ensemble for Roy and friends 's Black & White Night (featuring Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, Tom Waits, Jennifer Warnes). On December 6, 1988 the world lost Roy Orbison, but the celebration of his music lives on. That year alone he topped the charts both as a Traveling Wilbury (including bandmates Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty) and as a solo artist, with his mega hit “You Got It,” off his posthumously released Mystery Girl, (that also included a collaboration with Bono). Both of these releases won him two Grammys that year, and then he won another the following year – for Best Make Vocalist.
This totally unique artist enjoyed an unrivaled career, that 22 years since his passing, is still flourishing. “And now the journey continues,” said Barbara Orbison” with Roy Orbison’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
For more Information on Roy please visit: www.royorbison.com.

John Williamson And Shannon Noll Deliver Anthem
Thursday 21st January 2010: Country music icon John Williamson and Condobolin boy Shannon Noll have joined forces to produce a song recognising the country they love.
Titled, ‘Island of Oceans’, the song is the only new original song on John Williamson’s March 19th 2010 album release “The Absolute Best of JOHN WILLIAMSON: 40 Years True Blue”.
Written by John, the descriptive track could easily become the nation’s next anthem; if not, don’t expect to see another one like it from the celebrated and awarded TRUE BLUE Williamson.
‘I have written many songs of over my forty years as a recording artist in an attempt to capture the enormous spiritual power of our huge, ancient land. At last, here it is; an anthem aimed to inspire pride in our place on earth. My final song on the subject. Only time will tell whether I have succeeded,” said John on the release to radio of the track.
John Williamson is no stranger to creating anthems, stirring national pride in country and delivering flag-raising ballads . . . even if he never meant them that way.
“While I’m immensely proud of how ‘True Blue’ has found a place in many hearts, it was never written as an anthem. It is often used to salute the passing of fair dinkum Australians. It’s more about the character of the people,” added Williamson.
The inclusion of Shannon Noll on the track came from a chance meeting between the Bush Balladeer and Australian Idol graduate some years ago. Noll, a fan of Williamson, spoke with him about how his song ‘Galleries of Pink Galahs’ was his father’s favourite and, as such, was played at his funeral when he passed. Since then that song and, in fact, John Williamson has been a special part of the Noll family.
John wrote the song ‘ISLAND OF OCEANS’ and hoped to share the message and passion with someone of like mind. He remembered his conversations with Shannon and invited him to record with him. Noll accepted immediately. Williamson was thrilled.
“I’m proud to have Shannon Noll sing with me and share with us his pride in being a son of our ‘Island of Oceans’,” said John paying tribute to his friend.
The song, ‘ISLAND OF OCEANS’ was previewed today to friends, colleagues and dignitaries at a special function where John’s 40th year in the industry was recognised by Her Excellency The Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC, during the 2010 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
‘ISLAND OF OCEANS’ will be available as single digital download on Feb 19th and can be purchased in-store from March 19th 2010 as part of the ‘The Absolute Best of JOHN WILLIAMSON: 40 YEARS TRUE BLUE’ album release which comes with special Tribute Album made up of John’s peers singing his biggest hits in their style. Kasey Chambers, Ash Grunwald, Russell Crowe, The Waifs, Tommy Emmanuel and Wendy Matthews all volunteered to contribute, just to name a few.

John Williamson marks 40th Year
Call him what you want, ‘Mallee Boy’, ‘True Blue’ or just plain ‘Fair Dinkum’, there is no denying that after 40 years in the music industry, John Williamson is an Australian icon.
Three ARIA Awards, 24 Golden Guitars, MO Awards, APRA Awards, Platinum and Gold albums, over 4 million album sales and the list goes on . . . he has earnt the title whether he likes it or not.
This year John Williamson will celebrate a milestone regarded as a significant achievement in the entertainment industry, 40 years of success, four decades of hits, of celebrity and of sharing his love of Australia and poetry in song with its people.
It was June 4th 1970 that John Williamson made his debut. On the talent quest TV show, NEW FACES, Williamson competed with his self-penned and still much loved “silly song” ‘OLD MAN EMU’. He won, and since then has inspired pride in country, love of land and touched millions regardless of age, sex or creed.
This is the man famous for stirring classics such as COOTAMUNDRA WATTLE, RAINING ON THE ROCK, SALISBURY STREET, GALLERIES OF PINK GALAHS and public outcries like RIP RIP WOODCHIP, A FLAG OF OUR OWN and let’s not forget his anthemic deliveries such as of TRUE BLUE, GLORY TO AUSTRALIA and romantic ballads like WINTERGREEN, HAWKESBURY RIVER LOVIN’ to name but a few.
His resume and catalogue would make any songwriter envious; not bad for a kid from Quambatook in Victoria’s Mallee country.
Look at some of the most significant events in Australia in the past few decades and he has been there. The 2000 Sydney Olympics, Steve Irwin’s memorial, the Bledlisloe Cup, Sir Donald Bradman’s memorial, the Rugby World Cup, the first Bali Bombings memorial service and the list goes on. He is ingrained in Australia’s history as much as its future.
But accolades and awards have never been a huge deal to John Williamson; it has always been about the fans to the ever humble ex-farmer. Even after what he has achieved, or what he has been invited to be a part of, he remains nonchalant about it all.
2010 is a year to celebrate John Williamson and his 40 years of contribution.
In March 2010 he will release his ultimate BEST OF album, aptly titled “The Absolute Best of JOHN WILLIAMSON: 40 YEARS TRUE BLUE”. The CD contains his biggest hits and most requested songs, along with a new track recorded with Shannon Noll, ‘ISLAND OF OCEANS’ which could be Williamson’s ultimate gift yet. Inspiring, stirring and as patriotic as you can get, this is two loved Aussies singing for their country.
Accompanying “The Absolute Best of JOHN WILLIAMSON: 40 YEARS TRUE BLUE” is a special Tribute Album making the 2-disc pack a must have product. Kasey Chambers, James Reyne, Tommy Emmanuel, The Waifs, Russell Crowe, singing his songs in their own style, are just some of the artists who volunteered to appear on the 13 track special addition to honour his fortieth year.
In 2010, John Williamson’s music turns forty. He and his EMU can both celebrate. In one of the toughest industries and businesses, he has not only survived but soared.
His optimism has no doubt helped his longevity, coupled by determination and will, his words alone give you an insight into the passion this True Blue, Fair Dinkum Mallee Boy has.

If Kisses Could Talk - Lives On and On
Via Classic Recording by Vernon Oxford
Murfreesboro, Tenn.--Remember that old song: Old Soldiers Never Die, They Just Fade Away? Well, I have a song on the charts entitled:
If Kisses Could Talk ... by Vernon Oxford that refuses to fade away. A few weeks ago it raced to No. 10 on The Music Review Chart out of Poughskeepie, N. Y., in its first week out, and hopefully will reach No. l, as have a number of my songs recorded by Vernon Oxford.
Although this is a small chart (some 500 radio stations getting the cd compilation with this song, plus Vernon also singing No One Is Listening and yours truly doing the recitation, The Pledge Of Allegiance To The Flag), it is significant for a number of reasons:
First: it is a song that I first brought to Nashville when R. Murrary Nash was general professional manager at Acuff-Rose Publications, then 2510 Franklin Rd.
Secondly: it is one of several songs of mine recorded by Vernon Oxford and making the chart I mentioned, some at No. 1, and others high on the list of successes.
The chart is put out by Rick Carbone of Empty Sky Records (48 Robin Rd., Poughskeepie, N. Y., 12601).
Here, then, is a partial list of the songs making the chart:
God, That Was A Close One, No. 1, making it to the top in July, 2008 (Vernon Oxford); The Patriotic American, a recitation by Everett Corbin, No. 9 in July 2008; Death And Taxes, No. 10, April 2009.
Others: Veron Oxford, rising to No. 13 on the chart in July 2007 with a song not promoted: Brothers Of The Bible, Soldiers Of The Cross; and There's An Angel Standing There, both from the Oxford-Corbin cd. The first song was written by Vernon, the last by Everett.
A number of songs made it to No. 1 even earlier (that specific info not at hand) in Europe, namedly: I Love To Sing.
And: Vernon made it to No. 1 in November of 2007 with still another Corbin song: The Flag Has Disappered, which was promoted via Diamond Back Records.
Many of these songs can be viewed in video format on You Tube, some by Vernon Oxford, or type in also: Everett Corbin.
Much of this music can be purchased from Everett Corbin at: Corbin Music BMI, 5801 Halls Hill Pk., Murfreesboro, Tenn., with a list of what's available from the author.
Hopefully, many of you will contact Rick Carbone and ask that he (also a dj) play some of these songs.
In the meantime, let me mention again that I have been in poor health for months, but now healed (yes, I believe in the healing power of the God of this vast universe) of bone cancer, which started in the prostrate.
