I WANDERED INTO TAMWORTH
AND I HEARD A SONIC BOOM
AS I AMBLED DOWN OLD PEEL STREET
ON A TUESDAY AFTERNOON
MY MEMORY STARTED WANDERING
BACK TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS
WHEN COUNTRY WAS REAL COUNTRY
PLAYED A REAL FAIR DINKUM WAY
THE MUSIC THEY WERE PLAYING
WOULD WIN ANY ROCK AWARD
AS THEY DROWNED A LITTLE BUSKER OUT
PICKIN' OUT THREE CHORDS
HE TRIED TO SING OUT LOUDER
IN A TRUE BLUE COUNTRY STYLE
BUT THE ROCKERS WON OUT EVERY TIME
YOU COULD HEAR THEM FOR A MILE
Chorus
DON'T LET THEM MURDER TAMWORTH
DON'T LET THEM STEAL THE PEEL
DON'T LET BIG BUSINESS CALL THE TUNE
TELL THEM HOW YOU FEEL
OUR PIONEERS WOULD TREMBLE
UP IN HEAVENS HALL OF FAME
TO HEAR WHATS HAPPENING HERE ON EARTH
TO THEIR COUNTRY MUSIC NAME
(TURN AROUND.
THEY HAVE SOLD OUT COUNTRY MUSIC
AND THE EVIDENCE IS PLAIN
WE MUST HONOUR OUR TRADITIONS
AND NEVER PLAY THIER GAME.
WE'LL FIGHT THEM IN THE TRENCHES
AND SHOW COURAGE ALL THE WAY
LET’S BELIEVE IN OUR CONVICTIONS
AS WE STAND UP AND SAY
CHORUS
TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF TAMWORTH
LEAVE OUR COUNTRY NAME ALONE
LET’S GET BACK THERE TO OUR ROOTS
NOT THAT ROCKIN' THUMPIN' MOAN
THEY SAY THAT THERE’S BEEN MURDER
WAY DOWN ON MUSIC ROW
DON'T LET THEM MURDER TAMWORTH
OR OUR COUNTRY MUSIC SHOW
KEY CHANGE TO D
IF THEY REALLY WANT THE ROCKERS
AN’ THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE NAME
WE'LL TAKE OUR MUSIC ELSWHERE
AND THAT WOULD BE A SHAME
TO MILDURA OR TO BUNGENDORE
HOW PROUD THEY’D BE TO OWN
THEN OUR COUNTRY MUSIC CAPITAL
WOULD HAVE A BRAND NEW HOME.
CHORUS.
SO TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF TAMWORTH
LEAVE OUR COUNTRY NAME ALONE
LET’S GET BACK THERE TO OUR ROOTS
NOT THAT ROCKIN' THUMPIN' MOAN
THEY SAY THAT THERE’S BEEN MURDER
WAY DOWN ON MUSIC ROW
DON'T LET THEM KILL OFF TAMWORTH
OR OUR COUNTRY MUSIC SHOW.
DON’T LET THEM MURDER TAMWORTH
OR OUR COUNTRY MUSIC SHOW

More Support For Keeping Tamworth Country
I have been reading many of the letters you have been receiving, regarding the declining musical classifications coming out of the Tamworth Country Music Festival. I personally feel the music is fast becoming alien to Country Music standard & genre.
My idea of genuine Country Music is Slim Dusty, Tex Morton, Stan Coster, Gordon Parsons, Geoff Brown [Qld], Dean Perrett [Qld], Amos Morris [NSW] & the like. What I would like to know is how come we can have nominees for the Golden Guitar Awards who are not even anywhere near being Country sounding. They are strictly middle-of-the-road artists, & that should be enough to prove they are NOT eligible to be a nominee for this event. When these singers & screamers nominate, they should be disqualified & not go any further. They are really suitable to qualify for a more apt awards situations.
When one sits & listens to the so-called Country music, many of these artists are very well known, some even winning the Golden Guitar Male & Female Vocalists Of The Year at the awards. When new young singers hear these artists at work, they think that is what they have to sound like, so in actual fact these experienced singers are in fact doing damage to the Country Music classification! I think it is time to take a stand, & stick only to Country singing & yodelling......
I also feel we should only have country artists singing at the Festival concerts, as the event is called a Country Music Festival, not a Music Festival. I'm sure people don't travel from New Zealand & far away areas in Australia just to sit & hear noisy artists & singers doing anything but proper Country flavoured entertainment!
Another stipulation I feel should apply is for the Golden Guitar nominees be Australian born, resident of Australia, & their material recorded in Australia. I'm sure the Festival is meant to be for Australians & guests, by Australians.
I hope this year's Festival will be successful, prosperous and COUNTRY!
Thanks for a great weekly column, it's certainly worth all your expertise, Joy.

Emails Between Rod McCormack & Eric Scott
Rod, I respond to your email.

Rod McCormack wrote:
Hi Eric,
I have spent the last few days reviewing some of the emails etc doing the rounds (including the one below) and feel the need to respond. |

I know you have done some good work over the years, advancing what you know and love as country music. It is also clear to me that you are now totally out of touch with Country Music In Australia in 2009.
You have absolutely no idea of how in or out of touch I am. However, it should be obvious that I am not deaf and do I know whether or not Guy Sebastian and Jimmy Barns et. al. are a country act. (But thanks for the faint praise.)
I, like you, love country music and have spent the last few years working tirelessly as a board member of the CMAA to improve our presentation of the country music awards of Australia - also personally as a producer, I , with others, have been working and investing lots of money to improve the standards of CD production, which as you well know, until recently were well below world standards. I'm really proud of the advancements in these areas and feel that we can now hold our head up high as a strong contributer to the broader music industry and not be the poor second cousin we used to be.
I'm certainly not here to defend the mayor or anyone else. I proudly call myself a COUNTRY musician and producer.
I have no reason to dispute that.
I am also the person responsible for bringing Guy Sebastian to the festival - two years ago and again in 2010. What you may not know is that Guy, Gina, Wendy and James will all play with the fine country musicians I have assembled to work on the show. Guy wants be a part of a great festival and wants to present a country version of his enormous talent! I also maintain that having a 1.3 million selling artist like Guy involved helps our true country artists get a hearing with a wider audience - something that is of utmost importance to the advancement of our industry.
Are you suggesting that our true country artists need to cling on to the coat tails of the current pop "sensation"? They don't.
I would challenge you to tell me how I am 'ignorant of' or 'don't care about' Australian country music
I don't say that, although most in Tamworth who push this "Music Festival" idea are. You and they just don't realise the damage they are doing to the image, identity and credibility of our Country Music Festival and the country music brand by spotlighting pop acts as having a legitimate place in the major Country Music event in Australia..
Also - since when is Australian Country Music your patch?
Since 1957. - 52 years. Am I not allowed to share this patch with others??? I care a great deal when attempts are made to make our Country Music Festival" into a "Music Festival."
I'm glad you are using the technology of email and internet - it may interest you to know that we have also being using it in a very in depth way to stream Australian Country Music all around the world and allow our quality performers an opportunity to get heard on the world stage - in places they may not otherwise be heard. As this is the fastest growing market for music buyers around the globe I was pleased to hear that you were 'logged on'!
That just shows how little you now about me, eh? I have been "logged on" as you put it, since before the Internet was known to the general public. For five years before that, I ran a bulletin Board, and am very aware of the Internet's usefulness in the production of music generally. What does that have to do with the current situation, pray?
After reading your thoughts - I'm still a little in the dark as to which side you're on? How in your opinion music should sound, and where in your opinion it should be heard? To me this reeks of both arrogance and ignorance - surely you don't believe you can control true artists creative output and when and where they choose to showcase this? To me the analogy would be - you like driving in first gear - thing is, I also like first gear, but lots of us like to get in to second, third, fourth and even, God forbid - overdrive
I am neither arrogant nor ignorant. I don't wish to the control creative juices. The non-country results should proudly be showcased in non-country events, not country ones. That, to me, reeks of selfishness or ignorance. Talented musicians always have pushed the boundaries, but the understanding ones don't insist that everything they do is of the same genre as their main output.
You have absolutely no idea of what "gear" (as you put it) I am driving in. You only think you do.
I have my ears and eyes open to what people have been writing and saying for years, now, and as they are some of the "punters" who are the bread and butter of the Festival I take note of what they say.
The sad news is Eric, the festival as you know it - is over - and has grown into a world class event and I would love nothing more than to see you proud of your legacy - but like all children, there is a time to let go and realise it will change, evolve and respond to the market that you clearly refuse to recognise.
Don't patronise me, Rod. The Festival must continuously change, and I have so stated. Read the Northern Daily Leader article again and don't be selective in what you choose to read. I quote ...."The country music Festival needs, of course, to change, as does country music itself."
I trust this doesn't sound any more dramatic than your ramblings.
I have paid you the respect of not copying some of the industry on this as you have - although I have copied Rebecca at the Leader and would like to request a right of reply.
I hope you do reply.
Many thanks,
Rod

Jade Hurley's Appraisal Of The
Wauchope Country Music Cattle Race

The Wauchope Country Music Festival was such a FABULOUS EVENT.
Sometimes these events turn up the most INTERESTING (IF I CAN PUT IT THIS WAY) situations.
Wellllllllll ... there in Wauchope ... it happened.
After the stage was set up ... and the various artists we doing sound checks etc ... the sound man himself ran up the steps (the steps onto the stage) ... and one of the steps gave way causing him to fall through and hurting himself.
SOOOOOOO ... after that, these set of steps were banished to the rubbish heap ... but not before much thought and discussion from some helpful locals was put to the test to find an alternative to getting all artists and musicians onto the stage in a safe manner.
Some wag came up with one suggestion and proceeded to depart the showground on the mission to secure the absolute answer.

WELLLLLLLLLLL ... about a half ann hour later a station wagon comes hurtling over the sports ground towing the BIGGEST AND HEAVIEST FULL STEEL (COMPLETE WITH SIDE BARS ... AS ALL SOLID CATTLE RACES COME WITH) ... CATTLE RACE ... which was then proceeded to be backed up to the front of the stage.
WELLLLLLL ... it looked so HUGE ... AND ALMOST OUT OF PLACE ... however before the festival was over ... just about EVERY musician and artist had given it everything they could (SEND-UP WISE) over the microphone ... INCLUDING MY GOOD SELF.
Fair dinkum ... over the next three days ... everyone became so used to seeing this bloody great steel construction which resembled an early WACKY version of THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE ... MINUS THE CATTLE ... that it became part of the furniture.
One really funny happening (well ... depending on the lady I am about to profile if she can take a joke) ... was ... my mate Dale Hooper was performing his Johnny Cash tribute and needed a volunteer lady out of the audience to sing a line in the song "DADDY SANG BASS".
Now ... her line to sing in reply to every time Dale sang "DADDY SANG BASS" was ... "MAMA SANG TENOR" ... so a volunteer lady was selected ... and I must say she was a bit of a buxom wench ... and when she ran up the cattle race onto the stage ... some wacker (VERY UN-KINDLY) in the audience let out with the loudest MOOOOOOOOO (you know ... that very familiar cow speak) ... which was surprisingly (or very kindly I suspect) ... lost on most of the audience ... but to myself and my mate Frank Ifield (who was compering the night along with another mate Barry Williams) ... and a few others ... it was the funniest thing that happened on the whole weekend. SHE DIDN'T FLINCH AN EYELID ... JUST RAN UP THE CATTLE RACE ONTO THE STAGE ... AND SANG ON CUE "MAMA SANG TENOR" ... LIKE AN OLD TROUPER. GOOD ON HER.
SO ... I suspect that the 2010 Wauchope Country Music Festival will always be remembered not only for the great event it was ... but .. THAT BLOODY GREAT BIG CATTLE RACE.
Go along to Wauchope next year ... with a bit of luck ... there may be a COMPROMISE between the flimsy original stage steps ... and that BLOODY GREAT STEEL CONSTRUCTION.
If you are going to the Tamworth Country Music Festival ... please call around to the WEST TAMWORTH SPORTS AND BOWLING CLUB in BELMORE STREET WEST TAMWORTH and say "HI". My show is on at 2 pm EVERY AFTERNOON. Either have a wander to the club or catch the bus. It's a great cozy venue ... with the coldest drinks in town and nibblies to suit every taste.
Oh by the way ... I have been given every assurance that THE WAUCHOPE CATTLE RACE ... WON'T BE ANYWHERE IN SIGHT IN TAMWORTH.
Yours ... remembering forever

Dale Hooper’s News from Wauchope CM Festival – Jan 8, 9 & 10, 2010

Dale Hooper Jade Hurley & Frank Ifield

Dale Hooper
Well what a fantastic 3 days of Country Music. Such a great lineup of talent.
It was great to catch up with some old mates of mine in the country music industry…..Jade Hurley, Col Hardy, Barry Williams, just to name a few.
Gloria & myself thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
I was very impressed with the organisation of the festival, & also the numbers attending…… considering it’s only in it’s 2nd year……amazing!
It can only get bigger & better each year & is a real credit to the beautiful town of Wauchope.
The fact that the folks can camp at the Showground where all the action is, is a real plus. Once you set up your camp you don’t have to drive anywhere – just kick back & enjoy 3 days of non-stop entertainment.
I, for one, will certainly be spreading the word!
Jade Hurley put on a magnificent 2hr show on Friday night – what a showman! Non-stop energy from start to finish. I think we could all learn a bit by watching someone like Jade in action.
And who will ever forget the Cattle Ramp stairway to the stage.....I've never entered a stage via a cattle ramp before..... talk about keeping it country........loved it!
I hope everyone enjoyed my performances – I certainly enjoyed performing for you all, & I hope to catch up with everyone again at Wauchope in future years.
Frank Ifield & Barry Williams did a fantastic job as MC’s. Their combined experience in the industry & knowledge of us artists, just amazes me. All added to the smooth running of the festival. They worked tirelessly in the heat for everyone, & their contribution certainly helped make this a very special event. Thanks boys – very much appreciated.
Huge thanks to all the volunteers as well. They also worked non-stop the whole weekend. They were always so quick to lend a hand if you needed it – thanks folks.
I would like to thank all involved in the Wauchope CM Festival Committee: (Pauline Fisher, Debbie Jones & Joy Lewis just to name a few) for inviting me to perform at your Festival, & for looking after Gloria & myself so well.
Hope to see you all again soon.
Dale Hooper.

John Colville & Primrose Henderson
Hi Joy,
We arrived home last night after visiting friends on the way.
The festival was most enjoyable - the highlights for both of us being Jade who seems to have unlimited energy and Ian B. who sounds just like |
 |
Slim Whitman - they are both very professional performers. We also thought Donella was very realistic as Dolly Parton.
We welcomed the opportunity to be in the walk-ups on Friday and as a result scored 2 radio interviews - one live with Paul on Saturday morning and a recorded one with Bazza.
If we'd know the Gospel concert was to be open mike we'd have been happy to have our instruments there and do a couple of numbers from our Gospel repertoire.
We decided not to busk as the weather was somewhat steamy a lot of the time so we were glad to retire regularly to Auntie Ann's where we had an air conditioned room - thanks for the recommendation.
Please pass on our thanks to all the organisers and volunteers for a job well done.
Kind regards
John & Primrose |
A Fund Raising Idea For The Smoky Dawson Memorial Statue
G'day Gang,
Happy New Year and stuff. I hope you’re feeling well.
Sorry about the general release here but it was the quickest way I could let you know what I'm up to and to seek your help.
As you may know there has been an appeal launched in Tamworth to erect a life size statue to the memory of Smoky Dawson and I've come up with an idea that hopefully will help it along.
I wrote and recorded the attached song "Smoky (we owe you)" in 1983 for my "From Under The Influence" Vinyl album (remember them?) and I've put it onto a Cd single which I have packaged along with my "Waiting For The Lightning" Cd album. I've donated 100 copies and these are to be offered for sale during the Tamworth Country Music Festival at the Australian Country Music Foundation Museum from the where the appeal is being conducted.
ALL money earned from the sale will go to the appeal and I wondered if you might like to help? If you could mention it during your program or in your column that would be terrific and if you can find a spot to play it that'd be great too.
I'm sure you have many listeners/readers who will be going to Tamworth and any assistance you can give to make them aware of the appeal would be greatly appreciated.
The festival starts on January 15th and if they can sell them all, wouldn't that be beaut. I'll leave it up to you.
Just to clarify what's happening. I mentioned that there will be 100 copies of the Smoky single/Waiting for the lightning package available at the Australian country Music Foundation Museum but what seems to have a confused a few folk is my wording.
Well the truth is the package is not going to be on general release EVER, it will ONLY be available at the Foundation Museum in Tamworth and should be there by Wednesday.
Once again all the money earned from the sale, that's 100%, nothing taken out, no freight, NUFFIN, all money will go to the appeal. Sorry about any confusion but I was in a bit of a hurry to let you know.
Until we catch up
All the best

Australia’s Texan Set To Wow Festival Goers

Doug Bruce & The Tailgaters at Wauchope Festival
Last year at the Tamworth Country Music Festival Doug Bruce was known only to a relatively small circle of fans who knew his music. This year is looking a lot different for the
Texas native who now proudly calls Australia home since moving here with his Australian
wife and their son five years ago.
During Tamworth 2009, Doug took out the coveted TIARA Best Male Vocalist. This was
followed up the following month when Doug won the Smoky Dawson Best (National) Independent Release, Victorian Album of the Year and Best Male Vocalist at the Victorian
and National Country Music Awards. The album, All I Need, has reaped praise from
country music and mainstream press, including the Sunday Herald-Sun.
Originally a drummer, Doug only took up singing upon moving Down Under.
“I did some backing vocals for artists I was drumming with but it was only when I moved to Australia and needed to widen the net for ways to make a living that I had a go at fronting
a band”.
“I was totally blown away by the awards last year. I know there were some people
scratching their heads wondering who the heck I was when my name was called out at the
TIARAs”.
“But I feel honoured and you sure have to take the good times with the more frustrating in
this business”.
“There’s still some people I need to convince that I’m here to stay. Hopefully the band and
I will do just that by blowing then away at our performances over the Festival and beyond.”
With his talented band, The Tailgaters, Doug performs a selection of his own songs, as
well as country-rockin’ covers to keep the crowd up on the dance floor.
Doug Bruce and The Tailgaters appearing in Tamworth January 13-23, 2010. |

Steve Pasfield
Hi there and yes, Tamworth is on again, the heat, the music, the heat and the good times, love it. I'll be at the Tamworth Services Club with a great band, Mike Kerin (fiddle, vocals and dry humour), Andy Toombs (bass, vocals and introductory humour) and Brad Bergen (drums, vocals and moderation of humour). Have a look in the Festival guide's, it could be |
 |
listed under Steve Passfield or could be under Handpicked, take your pick, better still pick up a Services Club Guide, but either way we'll be makin' a goodtime noise! I'm also on the Fender Roadcases Show Wednesday and the Fender Guitar Challenge in the park on Friday 22nd.
I've got a couple of exciting bits of news, my new album Timberman & Other Tales is done, and in the box, will have them in Tamworth but if you're not gonna be there have a look at my website for the secure online shop and get your order in. It's just awesome to have the album finished and I'm very proud of it!
'Nother bit of exciting news is that I've been nominated for Citizen of the Year here in my home patch of Hornsby, not sure why but it wasn't my mum! Honest! I'm very proud to be nominated for this award.
Australia Day is just 'round the corner and that's when I'll find out more. The Mean Fiddler is having a big Aussy Day bash and we'll be there from midday then down to Bi-centennial Park Pymble for a spot in their Australia Day show at 5.50pm.
Please check out the website shop for the new album and myspace for the new some of the new songs.
Til next time,

Golden Guitar Finalists Jetty Road Prepare For A Big Year
With a major international tour, multiple award wins and a performance alongside Brook and Dunn in America, 2009 was a busy year for country band, Jetty Road. Now with the Tamworth Country Music Festival only days away, it would appear 2010 is going to continue the busy time for the band.
Finalists for 3 Golden Guitars at the 2010 CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia (Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Group / Duo of the Year), Jetty Road will rock the awards with a performance of their multi nominated track at the televised awards show.
If fans have been lucky enough, they will have already secured their tickets for the bands only other performance at the festival. Their show at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday 21st January from 8.15pm has had a rush for tickets and the show has almost sold out.
Perhaps the success of their current single, World Keeps Turning at radio (#2 on Country Tracks Top 30 chart) has created the latest buzz for tickets for the show. The video for the single is sitting at #12 on the CMC chart, and Jetty Road have been announced as a finalist in CMC Oz Artist of the Year, which will be announced at the 2010 CMC Rocks The Snowys festival, where they are performing alongside Phil Vassar, Guy Sebastian, Jack Ingram and Doc Walker.
In addition to all of this, Jetty Road were recently announced as finalists for multiple awards at the 2010 Whittlesea Victorian and National Awards, presented in February at the Whittlesea Country Music Festival. Nominated for 5 awards in total - Best National Group, Smoky Dawson Best Independent Release, Victorian Album of the Year, Victorian Group or Duo of the Year and Victorian Entertainer of the Year.
Catch Jetty Road at The Capitol Theatre, Peel Street, Tamworth – Thursday 21st January 2010 at 8.15pm. For tickets visit www.visittamworth.com.au Katania Lee |
3 Golden Guitar Finalists on the one stage – Golden Saddles Awards Showcase 2010
Australian Country Music’s biggest cash prize competition is bringing a special treat to Tamworth this week. The Golden Saddle Awards present their inaugural showcase this Saturday 16th January at 2pm at The Capitol Theatre, Tamworth.
Female Artist of the Year Golden Guitar finalist, Lianna Rose (also finalist for Video Clip of the Year), will perform alongside fellow Golden Guitar nominees, Victoria Baillie and Ronni Rae Rivers (both finalists for Maton New Talent of the Year) and chart topping artists, Luke O’Shea (#9 Country Tracks Top 30) and The Harmonators (#12 Country Tracks Top 30) at the show which will be hosted by comedian Darren Carr.
Under new management, the new Golden Saddle Award featured many changes in 2009, including a new cash prize of $5000 given to the overall winner, and an additional $1000 cash given to the People’s Choice winner.
The award, presented in partnership with Rooty Hill RSL and Southern Cross Television, had an unprecedented number of applications this year from independent artists residing in Queensland, ACT, New South Wales and Victoria, who had to submit a marketing and business plan along with their music for entry.
Lianna Rose was announced the overall Golden Saddle Award winner in 2009, while Luke O’Shea impressed the crowd at Rooty Hill RSL at the September 12th show and took home the People’s Choice Award.
All 5 finalists appear at the Tamworth showcase this weekend.

A Word From Peter Izod
Good Morning,
Should you, or your committee members be visiting Tamworth for our Country Music Festival during the period of Friday 15th January to Sunday 24th January to take in the music and also assess talent which would suit your festival. I would ask that you include in your itinerary time to enjoy a performance or two by three outstanding individual Country Music artists for whom my business has been appointed to manage their musical careers, being Donella, Dan Murphy & Marie Hodson.
For ease of setting out your programme of events over the Festival, the simplest planner is “The 2010 Official Guide to the Tamworth Country Music Festival”. Dan Murphy performances are listed on Page 171, Donella 173 and Marie Hodson 187 (Marie has three listings).
I do hope there is an opportunity for me to meet with you during the Festival for these artists performances, which will certainly not disappoint you. Or feel free to telephone me on my Festival number 0418 245 058 if time does not permit for us to get together. I can assure you I will be presenting submissions on behalf of my artists to perform at your Festival.
I look forward to receiving a reply to this email prior to Tamworth if possible, or please advise me of the cut off date for submissions to your major event.
I look forward to catching up in Tamworth,
Kind Regards,
Peter Izod. – Manager, Donella.
Dan Murphy.

Another Guitar Goes Missing

Hi all,
My guitarist Daniel ‘lost’ or had his guitar ‘taken’ at the Woodford Folk Festival recently,.. Here’s his info on the guitar pasted below, please put it in any of your internet magazines/newsletters/media updates etc if you possibly can so we can get the message out.
“Hi everyone
I hope everyone has been enjoying their new year, taking it easy and enjoying some free time before its time to get busy again. Sadly, I have had a few setbacks since the start of 2010. the biggest setback was having my guitar lost (or stolen, though I hate to think that) at the Woodford folk Festival near Brisbane last week.
I first noticed my guitar was missing on Friday January 1st 2010. I was performing at the Duck and Shovel Stage the Day before and, to my knowledge was the last time i had used it. I believe I either put my guitar back in the instrument lockup next to the stage or left it backstage underneath a desk.
attached in this email are a couple of photos with me and my Guitar.
here is a list of the specifications of my Guitar:
De Gruchy brand
Drednaught model
made in August 2006 (this is written inside the guitar, visible through the soundhole)
slightly elongated square headstock
Waverly tuners
herringbone pattern around the body of the guitar and the sound hole
L.R. Baggs pickup inside
Abalone dots on bridge pins
rosewood back and sides
spruce top ( slight cracks in the finish)

Final Lineup Announced For CMC Rocks The Snowys 2010!
XYZnetworks’ Country Music Channel (CMC), Rob Potts Entertainment Edge and Chugg Entertainment are thrilled to announce the final additions to the lineup for CMC Rocks The Snowys 2010, Australia’s premiere roots and country music festival. US country hitmaker Phil Vassar and renowned American singer-songwriter Nanci Griffith, along with local favourites Steve Forde and Tania Kernaghan, complete the massive lineup.
Renowned for the raucous energy of his live shows, Phil Vassar (USA) has been writing hits for himself and others for over a decade. Country music’s ‘Piano Man’ has scored big with songs like Bye-Bye and I’m Alright (both massive hits for Jo Dee Messina) and Another Day In Paradise. The rowdy spirit of his life-affirming anthems translates to his concert performances, and he’ll be making his first trip down under for an exclusive one-off performance at CMC Rocks The Snowys.
Grammy-winner Nancie Griffith (USA) has defied genres, finding success across rock, folk and country, and earning the respect and admiration of collaborators like Jimmy Buffet, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson. The singer-songwriter has penned enduring songs including Love at the Five and Dime and Outbound Plane in a career spanning over 30 years. Never afraid to tackle difficult topics head on in her songs, her performance is always full of passion and deep honesty.
Stcve Forde is a Snowys crowd favourite, a mainstay of the festival, and one of Australia’s best loved live performers. He’s an artist who’s blazed his own trail through country music over almost a decade of recording and performing. A former rodeo rider who channels the same energy and spirit into his music, Steve has built a fiercely loyal fanbase through years crossing the length and breadth of Australia. His rockin’ live shows are legendary among Aussie country fans and he will return to rock the Snowys in 2010.
Tania Kernaghan was destined to become a country music star, coming of age in one of Australian country’s first families. Daughter of Ray and brother of Lee, Tania grew up with a passion for country music and a love of live performance that has taken to the top of the country scene. From the release of her first (platinum-selling) album December Moon in 1996, Kernaghan has remained one of country music’s premiere female artists.
The final lineup will feature Phil Vassar (USA), Lee Kernaghan, Kasey Chambers, Guy Sebastian, Jack Ingram (USA), Nanci Griffith (USA), Doc Walker (Canada), Adam Harvey, Steve Forde, Richard Clapton, Tania Kernaghan, Sinead Burgess, Peter Mcwhirter, Dan Sultan, Mike Carr, Kirsty Lee Akers, Paul Greene, Wilson Pickers, Jetty Road, Amber Lawrence, Mark Wells, Victoria Baillie, The Harrisons and Busby Marou performing over two stages on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th March 2010.
In an exciting new feature of CMC Rocks The Snowys in 2010, a series of free side concerts will be staged at the Thredbo Village over the festival weekend, featuring local and international artists from the festival – Doc Walker (CAN), Mike Carr, Peter McWhirter and Mark Wells.
Also performing will be rising star Jasmine Rae, exclusively on the side shows. For times and venue details, please visit. www.countrymusicchannel.com.au
The promoters are thrilled to announce that Great American Country (GAC) personality Storme Warren (USA) will be making his third visit to the festival to co-host the main stage performances and shoot an episode of his high-rated Headline Country TV show about CMC Rocks The Snowys. Headline Country airs locally on CMC. Also sharing hosting duties will be singer/songwriter and festival fave Mike Carr, who is also performing. This is the final touch to what is sure to be another fantastic CMC Rocks The Snowys.

Mark Tempany. Alison Hams
A powerful combination....
Since 2004 Mark Tempany and Alison Hams have established themselves as one of the finest duo combinations in Australian country music.
Both Alison and Mark share long and stellar solo careers - each having been Star Maker Grand Finalists, each having released several highly successful independent albums, and each having built a strong following through their touring to events like Tamworth and Mildura Country Music Festivals since the early 1990's.
Mark has several Top 10 radio hits and a Golden Guitar nomination to his name, has at times dominated awards like the QRA Sunnies (Queensland's annual Professional Recording Awards) and been a runner-up in the major Unisong International Song Contest. He also won the prestigious Coopers Golden Saddle Award in Sydney in 2004. Alison has won the UK Songwriting Competition, a SAMI award (South Australian Music Industry Award) for Best Country Release, and been a recipient of a regional SA Great Award for the Arts in her home state of South Australia.
With their individual flare for song writing, musicianship, and vocal performance - it is no wonder Mark & Alison have become such a formidable combination since joining forces. While still retaining some degree of their solo identities, the duo now generally work together to give audiences a unique and brilliant performance - their togetherness continuing off-stage since their marriage in 2005. The duo have performed in every state of Australia and in New Zealand - with Mark and Alison's solo touring over the years extending to Canada, USA, UK, France, Belgium and Holland.
In 2006 Alison and Mark were support act for UK superstar Charlie Landsborough on his Australian tour, and between them they have worked with dozens of major music industry names including James Blundell, Kate Ceberano, Lee Kernaghan and even Humphrey B. Bear. Mark has participated in fine collaborations with multiple Golden Guitar Finalist Vanya, Pat Drummond - and the late bush poet extraordinaire, Bobby Miller.
Alison has recently co-written "Finally Home" with Gina Jeffreys and Mark Drilling, has been a regular event backing band member for the South Australian "Champion of Champions", the SA Council for Country Music Showcase and the South Australian Country Music Awards. She is a graduate of the elite Australian College of Country Music - and both Mark and Alison were inducted into the South Australian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
May 2008 saw the duo's first performance trip to Western Australia and December 2008 saw Mark and Alison perform in front of 35,000 people at Adelaide’s Elder Park for “Carols By Candlelight”. 2009 brought touring to festivals, music tutoring and workshops, and pre-production of a new album to be recorded in their new studio facility and released in 2010.

Scratching The Surface Of Old Paint
Tuesday 12th January 2010: There is no doubt she is one of the most recognized and sought after country music artists in Australia. Her name is synonymous with the genre and her voice has become a household constant for many, now in 2010 Gina Jeffreys is entering the decade with a new-found recollection of the material that inspired the young girl with big dreams.
|
 |
Gina Jeffreys returns with a new album “Old Paint”; a collection of 11 heartfelt tracks and a tribute to her early influences, aspirations and much loved childhood memories which are sure to ignite the same in all who hear it.
The effervescent Gina will launch the new album during the 2010 Tamworth Country Music Festival, the perfect location to unleash and treat her devoted and loyal fans to her latest delivery.
Recorded in just one week, the 11 track release is a work of love. Gina voices every song, whilst her husband, respected and awarded musician and producer Rod McCormack, plays each and every instrument heard on the beguiling and addictive tracks. It is the ultimate collaboration.
Each song was carefully selected by Gina personally, chosen sub-consciously from an early age. The songs are those that her mother played on piano when she was a young girl or recordings she heard on the radio as she dreamt of sounding just like the singer who voiced them. Whilst all covers, this is possibly Gina’s most intimate and personal album yet.
“This was the most fun I have had recording ever. To be able to sing the songs I have loved for years in a room with just me and my husband will always be special to me. It was seven days labour of love, the only other person who ever shared the moment was our son Jackson which made the experience complete”, said Gina in reference to her new album recording.
With tracks like the emotive “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” sitting next to the likes of “Dream A Little Dream Of Me” and the ever popular “You Don’t Know Me”, you can be sure this is an album for anyone who appreciates the classics and hits.
A sure highlight of the album is Gina’s first time solo and in-studio recording of one of her most popular live show requests “Crazy”. Whilst Gina has delighted many for years with her rendition of the songbook classic, it is only now that she has given what has been asked for so long.
The full track listing for OLD PAINT is:
1. It Doesn't Matter Anymore
2. Blue Bayou
3. Dream A Little Dream Of Me
4. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
5. Crazy
6. Here There & Everywhere
7. You Don't Know Me
8. He Thinks I Still Care
9. When You Wish Upon A Star
10. Old Paint
11. Smile
With five Country Music Awards to her name, five MO Awards and a swag of others that can fill a trophy cabinet, Gina’s longevity in the often cut-throat industry, popularity with fans and sales of albums is enough proof that she is a true star.
In 2010, she’s up for another Country Music Award of Australia for her collaboration with friends Beccy Cole and Sara Storer as Songbirds. A possible new addition may be added to the mantle piece on the 23rd January 2010.
Old Paint will be released in Tamworth, January 2010.
Gina is available for interview and further discussion regarding this special recording.

Howdy Hi From The Tall One
Yes, somewhat late on the year’s end mail out of Words, perhaps Wisdom and What's ahead. Ha, an alternative www meaning! You are on my 'friends' list via Dya Singh, Totally Gourdgeous, Terra Australis, The Lawnmowers, The Supper Club, Fiddlers Festival, and a number of Festivals & associate acts/friends - let alone chance rendevous across the planet. But if you are too confounded being here and unlikely to become intrigued... then do put 'Please Remove' in a return subject line.
Big Hugs to the gracious (if not often totally random) folk met & re-met along the way, many of whom put extra relevance to why we do what we do! And to the all important friends who tend to question/ support/ laugh/cry and generally catch-up from time to time, Bravo and much love.
Quick Summary
It was a gargantuan last year of stunning life changing love (see www.bettinaduesberg.de for her extra-ordinary Art) - all my decision, and hope past paths will hold their value...;
Father passing on at 86 years in Adelaide - Karl Heinz Clermont, you have my absolute respect and appreciation (got the news as arriving at my Aunty's funeral at the top of Germany with all his brothers & sister standing with - astonishing timing!);
3 months in Berlin (Busking with ol' Rob Longstaff at Mauer Park - it goes off!) and bumped into Michael Fix mid -Germany in the last week there while performing with The Beez (also previous Supper Club performers) ;
large Oz tours from Singapore to Southern WA (much thanks to Michelle,Linda,Teresa/Bruce,
John/Jude,Steph,Judy,Simon&LouisaWorld and the incredible WA seaside for an unforgettable 9 days) to SA in the Barossa across to amazing Mallecoota (the SE corner of OZ mainland) & up to Woodford, QLD with all sorts in between;
including a fun Turkish Bushdance at the Warrah Ck Hall near Tamworth - Classic fun!
Add to that my precious Terada Guitar - stolen for 2 months - then Laptop/New vid Camera (with a precious collection of film moments) & my phone, get taken out of the Berlin apartment along with other peoples gear - alas no recovery on them. Quite the horrors - which must be philosophically dealt with - thankful for what was backed up and remiss at what wasn't. Quite the Yin & Yang for powerful learning curves - laugh good and loud on that one!!
Great sections of time enjoyed with the Grandkids & daughters spread now from Brisbane to Adelaide with particularly good parties thrown in across the board from Oz to Germany for 30, 40, 50ths and a Wedding with one of the biggest gatherings of Clan Clermont. Very grateful to be able to share in that.
Touring near you?
I'm in the throws of assembling the April/ May tour 2010 with Josh Bennett (Just released his landmark new CD of wonderous music) on the tail of last year's "Blues to Berserk" tour that went so well. So if anyone is keen for a performance nearby through their Arts group/ friend with large house or garden/ groovy Cafe/ hillside/ happening Pub/Club etc , let us know and we'll try to work it in.
The Supper Club - just seemingly days away
Most important just now is the looming new Supper Club 2010 at Tamworth's Country Music Festival - see http://www.andrewclermont.com.au/specialevents.htm#tamfest
- quite the Fringe Fest with it's usual Nights of Fiddle/Harmonica/Banjo/Guitar/Piano/Bluegrass & more with
Andrew Clermont - Celebrating 12 years of the Supper Club - bringing often up to 70 players together through the week - here the music really gets to soar and surprise audience & performer alike! 3 times a Bluegrass Champ, Director to the Golden Fiddle Awards, World Touring/Recording with 3 Bands, on Fiddle / Mandolin/ Guitar/ Didgeridoo and elated at this year’s line-up blending favourites with new spice - let the Magic, literally, begin!!
Jay Scott Berry & Matt Zarb -Magic,songs & the adventure of ‘Incantations’ - All Week
As a creator, performer and teacher, Jay Scott Berry is recognized as one of the Masters of the Art."The most Magical Act I've ever seen!" Matt’s unique style of guitar playing and songwriting has landed him on stages with everyone from Tommy Emmanuel to Willie Nelson - recently spending 3 years living/touring from Kentucky in the United States. This will be special!!
Brook Schiemer - a dance of Vocals - All week
from theatre scores to an original look on life. Her power belies her appearance. We are all the more enriched from knowing & performing with her.
Montz Matsumoto - Worlds of Banjo & Song - All week
He has glean much from his world touring and delivers from the heart. Appearing on the The Pigs & Borderers recent CDs he’ll bepowering with many shades of Bluegrass to Woody Guthrie
Megan Cooper - fresh songs & stories from Queensland vibe - All week
Carl & Penny Pannuzzo - tantalising Vox/Guitar/Piano/Ukelele/Drums/Percussion - ALL
- (Carl was with us as Totally Gourdgeous in 2006 & 2007)
Having spent a whole lot of life on separate paths, the two are now weaving in and out of each other's in a most magical way. Carl's multi-instrumentalist abilities along with his sinfully, soulful voice provide the perfect bed for penny's pure tones and exacting story-telling. They soothe and surprise, inspire and encourage. It's a simply beautiful and beautifully simple thing.
Ronnie Rindo - the pinot noir drummer from up nearby Moore Creek Valley, appearing over the first weekend.
Stephen O'hern (stunning young Armidale guitarist recently back from USA) featuring on the first weekend. Very special
Wu Pu Yu - Taiwan - an more emotional sound is rare to hear. Soaring Flute and tumbling Flute in Bluegrass & Celtic through to pounding & gentile Piano!
Sara Tindley & Susanna Carman
Back by demand after a riveting Songwriters in the Round, performance last year at the Festival.
Sara had audiences and critics alike heralding the arrival of a major songwriter. Her sound is uniquely Australian, wide-open, funny and true. Her roots are country with enough folk/soul influences to keep things fresh and vital. “This is compulsory listening for all supporters of Australian roots music" 4 stars Dan Condon “Time Off”. Susanna, fresh from USA touring, "with a voice of heartbreaking purity, lyrics that cut to the bone and a new release that shimmers. Carman's attractively relaxed voice, touches on some real pain, lets you feel it without histrionics, then finds an optimistic route out each time." Bernard Zuel, The Sydney Morning Herald. Together again with duets & delving stories. Main show is on Friday 22
Lana Kress - USA - opened for Dierks Bentley, Billy Currington & Travis Tritt. A truly passionate performer from Portland, Oregon.
Chris & Stephanie Rogers - Dobro, Octave mando, Guitar & sweet contemporary Vocals. The strength behind much of Mildura’s LIve Music events will also joined by Jesse Curran from Monday and all not long back from touring Europe.
Bronnie Ware - with a more trad sound - joins many on the Girls Night TUE 9pm
Jess Stocker - percussion & Drums with a Macedonian/ Belly Dance twist throughout the week & on the Fiddle Night, with ‘Arco’-Bassist’ Arlene Fletcher (Turkish Delight)
Lawrie Minson featuring on Harmonica - SUN 9PM
with his new Video clip at No. 19 on the charts he was forever the dobro sound behind Slim Dusty, his multi-instrumental ability drew him together with Clermont in the mid 80s with a GoldGuitar win with the Three Chord Wonders while 25 years later they stood together again at Hohner in Germany for the Guiness Book of Records for Harmonica (2 in a crowd of 3000!! players)
Rob Long + Liz Frencham both ex-Lawnmowers and Liz , double bassist from multi-awarded Jigzag and many more; Rob a Guitar Champion, deliver absolute class from Monday till Thu if not further. And likely bring in Pete Fidler on Dobro.
Parris Macleod - an original Supper Club player, originally meeting Clermont at the recording of Troy Cassar-Daley’s first album! It was Parris’s Studio and now Clermont & Macleod have 2 studio CDs and the live Supper Club Oct 2004 recording don’t miss his dream to berserk keyboards, drum, guitar and much more. TUE - SAT

Jim Golding (banjo) challenges the traditionalists with bebop-banjo, rock’n roll-banjo, bossa-banjo, Mozart-banjo, and comic songs like “The Banjo Picker from Hell”.
