Terry & Jenny New CD - "Songs of our Land"

G'day everyone,
We have just released our new Album of eleven mainly self penned songs about our land Australia and we are very happy with our new baby.

Once again we had some great input from local Western Australian muso's with lucky Oceans on Peddle steel, accordion and Slide dobro, Dave Clarke - harmonica, Ian Simpson on Banjo and Mark Donohoe on Bass . On this Album we asked Peter Denahy if he could fly over to the West and play fiddle for us and we quickly found out what an incredible muso he is and a hell of a nice bloke to go with it. We used two of our grandkids Ben (9) and Jaime (8) for backing vocals on one of the tracks and they did us proud as they usually do. Ten of the songs are our own and we rounded the CD off with a song from Rachal Richards who writes a very nice Bush Ballad.

We had some good news last week when we found out that two of the songs off the Album have made it into the finals of the ASA songwriting Awards, one in the 'Australia' section and one in the 'Instrumental' so as you can imagine we are rapt.

Well folks that's all for the moment on our front but we'll keep you up to date on what's going on with us.

David Croser Busy In The Studio Again

Since April, David and wife, Helen, have travelled up to Forbes, NSW, to record David’s 3rd Country Music/ Bush Ballad CD. This was recorded in late April, at the 'NCM Recordings' studio of Nev Molloy. (All three of David’s CD's have been recorded and produced by Nev,) and feature his wonderful Bush Ballad style guitar playing.

The title track, 'The Cocky From Koolywurtie', was completed only a couple of weeks before being recorded, and is an autobiographical account of most of David’s farming life in the Koolywurtie area, (near Minlaton, SA).

David Croser

As with the previous two CD's, ('Proud To Be A Farmer' and 'Man On The Land'), there will be 14 tracks, including two written by David, (with some help from Helen), and one written by Helen. All the other 11 songs are Australian compositions, including a couple written by Nev Molloy. Hopefully, the CD will be released before the end of the year. Having travelled so far, David also put down 12 tracks, for a Gospel CD, to be released further down the track.

While in Forbes, David and Helen were pleased to be honoured with 'Guest Artist' status, at a special gathering of members of the 'Forbes Country Music Club'. David performed a lot of the songs to be included on the new CD, while Helen read some of the poems she has written.

Earlier, David entertained at the 'Alcheringa Shindig', (at the Jervois, SA, property of Dave Williams), to help raise funds for the 'RFDS', on February 9th, and also on February 10th, at the Wellington 'Barrel and Tub Regatta',( held for the first time), on the River Murray. (David and Slim Connor sang an impromptu duet, of the Buddy Williams song, 'The Flying Doctor', which went over very well).

August Album Launch For Jay Podger

Jay Podger's debut album "Feelin' Like Winter" was produced at Owen Blundells studio in Tumut, and it features 16 tracks 8 of which are Jay's originals with the title track entitled "Feeling like Winter". Jay wrote the song at the age of 18 when he was out on the family property near the Snowy River in the middle of Autum when the frost were starting to arrive and the afternoons had like a certain smell in the air like you Knew winter wasn't far away.

Jay's other songs are great traditional sounds which range from ballads, country rock to a old rock n roll number "Green Door".
"Our Wedding Day" was a track that Jay wrote for a commercial ("Mainly to see if I could write a song that would attract people to that

Jay Podger

special day").Jay had sung this song already at a few weddings, one wedding being Peter Simpson & Dianne Lindsay's.

Jay likes the music of the old Australian pioneers and has included two songs of Tex Mortons, one being a comedy style called Peg-Leg Jack & a Yodelling number Called I'll Be Hanged (If There Gonna Hang Me) which have that distinctive sound of the guitar playing.

Jay's debut album was released on Saturday 16th of August at the Cooma Ex-servemens Club and Sunday the 17th of August at the Cathcart War Memorial Hall. Artists included: Owen & Ian Blundell, Peter Pratt, Megan Carswell, Dianne Lindsay, and Peter Simpson and Lindsay Connelly, Darrel Ingram (Drums) and Brendon Podger (Sound Technician).

If you would like more information about Jay's CD you can contact him on : Ph 0264522731 or Email jaypodger@bigpond.com

The Robertson Brothers Interview

Here we meet the Robinson Brothers, who seemed to have a lot of fun participating in this form of interview

Robertson Brothers

Q: Where were you born and where did you grow up?

Geoff: We were brought up in a town called Springwood in the Blue Mountains.
Ben: Geoff and I still live there. We’re about 5 minutes away from each other.

Q: Was there anyone in particular who played an influential part in shaping your career?

Geoff: Mum and Dad were a big influence on our careers
Ben: When we were young Dad use to play Eagles, Bread, The Doobie Brothers and The Bee Gees continuously. Dad was always playing the guitar and singing through out the house as well.
Geoff: Mum was great as well. She would always encourage us. We were very young when we started out in the music industry so it really helped to have her continuous support.

Q: How long is it since you first got started in the industry?

Ben: Its been about 15 years for us now.

Q: What year did you do your first recording?

Geoff: We first started in 1994. Our first album was called ‘Symmetry’. We had no idea what we were doing at the time, we were just there to pretty much sing. We did however get to write two songs on the album. That was a major learning curb for us.

Q: What was it that made you decide to go into the recording industry?

Ben: It was our brother Stus birthday. Geoff was singing and we ended up singing with him for the first time. Geoff was working with a producer at this stage, they were working on some songs together. Geoff dragged us into the studio and we sang one song “Baker St”.  We presented it to two Record Labels. BMG and Polygram. To our surprise both labels wanted to sign us so we left it up to fate.

Geoff: We flipped a coin, heads ‘BMG’, tails ‘Polygram’. We ended up with BMG.

Q: You have a relatively new album, want tell me about it

Ben: Well we flew over to Nashville in the US and hooked up with producer Bobby E Boyd. Bobby had recently worked with the Rascal Flats and won a grammy for their #1 single Bless the Brocken Road. In Nashville we completed writing and pre – production before heading into Dark Horse Studios to cut the album.

Geoff: We got the name of the album from our boarding pass actually. Ben and I were sitting on the plane and were arguing over what to call the album. Ben looked down and his boarding pass and it read ‘FLIGHT 1974’, it just made sense to us.Ben & Geoff departed

Q: You’ve got some songs that are doing well for you

Geoff: Yeah our latest single Language of Heaven is doing great. It was picked up by Mix 106.5, which was very surprising to us as they don’t usually play country songs. The song has also peaked at #8 on the Music Network’s National Country Hot 30.

Ben: We will be however releasing a new single very soon called ‘Not Beautiful’ which is about women with insecurity problems. This single has more of a country feel to it and we will be filming the video clip for it in the next few days.

Q: How many albums do you have now?

Ben: During our career we’ve released 3 albums. Symmetry, Here and Flight 1974

Q: You have been doing well overseas, some pretty big engagements, tell me about them

Geoff:  Surprisingly enough we’re quite popular in Asia and in Germany. They call us TRB over there. Its amazing doing shows in Asia. We usually perform to approximately 10,000 people.

Q: Your most memorable occasion?

Ben: This one is easy! It would have to be when we performed at the 2000 Olympic Games with John Lennon and Stevie Wonder. They had John Lennon starting off with his infamous song ‘Imagine’ on this massive screen (they were filming live in the US), then they cut to Stevie Wonder and then us. There were approximately 80,000 people in the stadiums alone, not to mention the other 4 billion people watching around the world. I can honestly say that we will never forget that moment!

Q: Your most embarrassing moment

Geoff: Hahaha ok I have a great story for this! We were in China performing live on a television show.  I’m strumming the guitar and all of a sudden my strap decides to break off during our performance! The guitar smashes to the ground, Ben and I just look at each other in shock and then all of a sudden they cut straight to the weather.

Ben: hahahaha the look on the producers face was brilliant! He looked like she was going to have a heart attack. That would have to be the most embarrassing moments of our careers!

Q: You’ve won some pretty big awards, want to tell me about them

Geoff: We’ve won 11 Mos, 11 Aces and 2 Aria’s

Q: Ben I hear there’s a funny story to the song So Hard. Want to tell us about it?

Geoff: Yes Benjamin please tell us….

Ben: hahaha ok ok. So the idea for the song came about over a relationship of mine which had recently ended. We were playing a gig one night, I come home, open the door and find myself standing in an empty house with my dog sitting up staring at me with this dumbfounded look on his face. I looked around at first and I immediately thought I had been robbed, then realized that my girlfriend had left me and took everything with her. The woman took everything except my dog (Thank God!) and my bed! When I say everything, I mean everything! She even took my cutlery!

Geoff: I think she left you the bed because she couldn’t fit it with all your other stuff that she took!

Ben: Probably! So that’s where the song So Hard came from.

Q: Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t already mentioned?

Geoff: I think we’re good at this point.
Ben: Yeah I agree, I think we’ve covered all grounds.

Q: I have placed the titles of the tracks below, and you may add a comment to any or all of them if you wish.

Flight 1974 (2008)

The Robertson Brothers-Flight

1. Every Minute Of The Year (Is about our career)
2. The Language Of Heaven (the relationship at this point was going well)
3. Not Beautiful (about everyone’s insecurities)
4. A Million Ways (we had a big fight)
5. Love Let Me See Her (a very single moment)
6. The Time It Takes (trying to win her back)
7. When You Grow (still trying)
8. So Hard (she took all my stuff. Except the dog)
9. Who Am I? (it wasn’t working)
10. Always The Only Way (hmmmmmmmmm)
11. Miss You Anymore (depressed had to try and win her back)
12. More Than Alone (it didn’t work)

Exciting New Happenings In The Hills
For Galston Country Music Festival

“The Galston Country Music Festival has changed a bit this year, and it is exciting times, indeed, however we want all our regulars to know that our Sunday Concert will still be the same great value-for-money family day it’s always been.” says Festival Chairman, Richard Young. This year, the festival will run over 3 days, from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th September, and we think we have something for everyone to enjoy.

Golden Saddle Award

On Friday 12th The Dural Country Club will play host to an elegant fundraiser, starring Peter Denahy, Steve Passfield & Caitlin Harnett. At the same time, over at the Waterview Restaurant in Berowra Waters, you
can enjoy a relaxing Seafood Buffet while being entertained by our Australian Bush Poets.

The Cooper’s Golden Saddle Awards have undergone a lot of change this year – they’ve been moved to their own night on Saturday 13th at the Galston Club, and instead of 1 award, there are now 3 big awards that the 3 Finalists; Matt Frost, Sharon Lane & Drew McAlister will be vying for. As well as the main prize, the beautiful hand-crafted Golden Saddle Trophy, there is now a magnificent custom-built Tomkins Guitars Acoustic/Electric Guitar, the new Perpetual Trophy for the Performance Award. This guitar has been purpose built for the Golden Saddle Awards
by Allan Tomkins and will be awarded to the winner of the Performance Award, to be judged on Saturday night. Also for the first time there is a Peoples Choice Award, which will be won by the artist who gets the most votes both online and from the audience that night. We’re hoping that lots of Country Music fans will come along and support their favourite artist on the night.

Another ‘first’ this year is the Songwriter’s Workshop with Roger Corbett. This is on Saturday 13th during the day, with the opportunity for songwriters to showcase their material the following day in beautiful Fagan Park. There are limited spaces, so book your ticket early to avoid disappointment.

On Sunday 14th all the action in Fagan Park starts at 9am with the Poet’s Breakfast, and 9:30am on the Main Stage with a fantastic lineup of artists: Jonah’s Road, Victoria Bailley, Peter Denahy, Nicki Gillis, Carter & Carter & The BordererS, including the Golden Saddle Finalists.

We hope to see you there!

Hermann Lammers Meyer

Hi folks, we had so many requests for this track lately, so we decided to offer the song again for airplay, let us know .. we rush mp3 over to you, if you like to receive it, Hermann

World Wide Radio mp3 "On Request" Single Re-Release
Hermann Lammers Meyer`S Death Of A Clown - Mp3 Only

Hermann Lammers Meyer-Death Of A Clown

.........this is what Great Britain`s Ray Grundy had to say about Hermann Lammers Meyer `s Death Of A Clown :

Hermann Lammers Meyer takes this 1967 solo 'pop' hit for Dave Davies,
brother of Ray, who together formed top pop band of the time, 'The Kinks'.........by the scruff of the neck and makes the song his own.
Lyrically, for me, this light hearted song doesn't do too much with it's over use of "La la's" in the chorus. But I do like the humour of the last line of the second verse that goes; "The trainer of insects is crouched on his knees, in fantasy searching for runaway fleas."

The song's strong point is it's infectious melody, one that this genial German artist has capitalised on to good effect by adding the pedal steel genius of Buddy Emmons, the equally talented Hargus 'Pig' Robbins on piano and the fiddle of Buddy Spicher, to his own distinctive vocals, all the while turning "Death Of A Clown" into a surefire Country Music chartbuster!! Nice one Hermann!!

Connie Neilsen
is a new name to country music.

This young singer/songwriter from Queensland’s cane country has a debut forthcoming album, ‘More Than A Memory’, produced by Bill Chambers.

Connie is presenting her first ever single to radio, ‘Mistakes’. Written from the heart, Connie’s vocals perfectly match the sentiment of reflection, of a journey into the past and of valuing the lessons taught in

Connie Neilson

growing up.

There are no mistakes in the first offering from this SEQ TSA winner.

Bio

Connie Neilsen is a new name to country music. Raised on a sugar cane farm on the Fraser Coast in QLD, Connie grew up as one of seven children in a large family. The values of a humble upbringing are themes Connie shares in her songwriting, along with lessons hard learnt.

This mum of two, turned to her songwriting when her father passed away suddenly in 2005 from cancer,
forcing a re-evaluation of the important things in her life, the result, a deeply personal collection of songs now brought to life on her debut album, ‘More Than A Memory’.

I spent many hours reflecting and putting pen to paper to bring the memories and emotions to life”. say’s Connie.

On accepting an award for first and second place in the SEQ TSA awards in Brisbane, Connie met Bill Chambers who later went on to produce the album, and realise her long held dream, one she dedicates to her late father.

With family values so core to this songwriters heart, it is no wonder the likes of Dolly Parton & Alison Krauss have proved influences. Connie’s rising through the ranks of songwriting competitions and talent quest has equipped her well as an emerging artist in Australian country music.

Doug McIntyre Says G'day Folks

Hope you and all yours have been well. The release of my first album “Turn the Tide” continues to attract much air-play and interviews.

Thought you might be interested in a great album review by John Wolfe in this months national country music magazine “Capital News”

All the best and thank you all for your support !
Doug

Doug McIntyre-Turn The Tide

Doug McIntyre presents an excellent example of Australian country, from the modern storytelling side of the fence, and his insightful lyrics carry these 12 original tunes very well. A thirteenth track features a well delivered version of the Stan Coster classic Cunnamulla Fella. Doug has a strong vocal delivery which can only be described as Aussie and it suits his material well, with some very good tunes and stories dealing with a variety of subjects.
Highlights include the delightful The Accordion, the interesting Cowgirl Games and the title track. Doug is a consummate storyteller as Moonlight Ride, The Dingo And The Boy and The Ballad Of The Black Stump all attest. The combined talents of producers Bill Chambers and Roger Corbett, and an A list of pickers, enable Doug’s natural charm and abilities to ride over the music with ease and this is an all round top notch effort that will
appeal to true country music fans.

Lana Ross

Stories To Tell local launch in Mackay for Lana Ross at newest country music venue, and plans September mini-tour

Queenslander Lana Ross is extremely happy with the radio response she has received from her first single Heavens Park to radio through NfS distribution.

The singer songwriter launched her CD Stories To Tell, locally at one of Mackay’s newest country music venues in June.  It was standing room only for the debut album launch at Outback 2 Reef the newest venue for country music in Mackay.

Lana Ross

Fans, friends and family, as well as local radio and media representatives were keen to show their support for their talented new singer songwriter.  It was a very close and personal afternoon with Lana as she shared the stories behind the songs and the journey of how the album has unfolded.

There were tears and ovations from her audience as she sang the beautiful self penned song Heavens Park.  A truly special afternoon for Lana and one that her fans are unlikely to forget.

The launch was a prelude to Tamworth for Hats Off earlier this month.  Lana appeared at Butlers Auditorium at what has become one of most successful January & July inclusions on the LBS program – LBS Morning Tea.  She also appeared at the Southgate Inn for the Shirley Thoms Fundraiser for Bronze Bust courtesy of organizer Lorraine Pfitzner.

It’s home now to Mackay and preparation for a touring schedule which will take her back to NSW and inland to southern central Queensland.

Deadlys
Album Of The Year Nomination For Sharon Lane

So engrossed in her music and work studies, Sharon Lane almost missed hearing the 2008 Deadly Awards finalist announcements.

Yesterday in a chance telephone call, Sharon learnt from award organisers that she had made the final 2008 Album of the Year category alongside fellow indigenous artists Archie Roach, Christine Anu and Gurrumul.

Somewhat overwhelmed initially at hearing the news, Sharon quickly responded with excitement that she could be selected amongst peers, in

Sharon Lane

the company of some of the best music and cultural artists in Australia.

Recorded last year in Sydney with Herm Kovac, the album is a near-all work of originals for Shaz, more than adequately described as ‘an impassioned writer probing life’s irony in an everyday world.’

Second Chance was officially launched at the Woodford Folk Festival in December, and scored a finals nomination at the 2008 TIARA Awards for Vocal Collaboration with Randall Waller for their retro rendition of Bob Dylan’s It’s All Over Now Baby Blue

So far two singles from the album have been released to radio - Hello, and the second – a powerful but understated ballad I Don’t Want To Fall To Pieces.

In 2007 Sharon was named Deadly’s New Talent of the Year at the Sydney Opera House in October.

The inclusion in Album of the Year this year is another milestone in the music career of the inspired Dubbo artist.

Sharon Lane Signs With Hardrush Country

Hardworking Dubbo artist Sharon Lane, a recently announced contender for Deadlys 2008 Album of the Year, 2008 Golden Saddle finalist in three categories and last year’s Deadlys New Talent winner has signed a music contract with Canberra based music distributor Hardrush Country.

Earlier Kelvin Fahey Hardrush CEO said ‘Sharon is well advanced in discussions with Hardrush Country covering closer ties with the label.

He continued ‘Sharon is a solid performer with great vocals and impressive songwriting.  We are very interested in being part of her career path in country music.’
