Clelia’s New Song Sure To Win Your Heart
Following the outstanding global success of Wildflowers, Clelia Adams is back in true country style with her new radio release, a stunning duet with good mate Bill Chambers.
The Louvin Bros classic, If I Could Only Win Your Love, is a tip of the hat to the
traditional roots from both artists who cut their teeth on early
|
 |
American country.
“That song means such a lot to me,” Bill Chambers said. “It’s always been one of my favourite songs ever. I love Emmylou Harris’s version, and Clel does such a great job of it, I’m really thrilled to be singing on it with her.”
For Clelia — If I Could Only Win Your Love was the first “proper” duet she ever learnt and to this day remains one of her all-time favourites.
With amazing international airplay, Wildflowers reached #2 on the mainstream European ECMA chart in June, (where it’s still at #7) and #11 in Australia, after taking up residence for four months in the Country Tracks Top 30. In May Wildflowers was Europe’s most played country song.
Two major wins in the Northern Territory Songwriting Awards for Song of the Year and Contemporary Country Song of the Year with Wildflowers was the icing on the cake after a big year in the charts.
The Wildflowers album, produced by Stuart French, has had a brilliant global response for its beautiful presentation, song selection, superb musicianship and flawless production.
Clelia would like to thank all her friends in radio around the country – and indeed, around the world, for their continued support of Australian country music – Clelia style.

New Single For
Connie Kis Andersen
It’s been just over a month since Connie Kis Andersen returned home to Perth from a six-week tour of the USA in support of her current US single; Happy Day. The track is currently being played on over 130 US radio stations and counting. It has also
just entered the US IndieWorld charts at #25 and is rising.
Andersen toured country music radio stations and performed in the
|
 |
Southern States of Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, andAlabama at venues receptive to her unique style of country music.
Highlights included The Bluebird Café, The Limelight, The San Miguel Coffee Co, The Danish American Chamber of Commerce, both Cowboy Churches in Nashville and Pigeon Forge in the Smoky Mountains as well as at world famous Tootsies and the Tin Roof just off Music Row during the CMA Fest. She has fond memories of her experiences with fans and her performances at honky tonks such as Veets Bar and Grill in Mobile Alabama, The Bucket in Dixie Mississippi, and
the Bar-B-Que Caboose in Lynchburg, Tennessee when she performed live on The Old Time Country Radio Show: WLIJ 1580 AM
During the CMA Fan Fest, Connie Kis was privileged to be included in Tootsies roster of artists at their autograph-signing booth in the Nashville Convention Center and to be invited as special guest on two local television programs, Mystery US! which aired on Nashville Channel 19 recently and The Petricio International show.
Two weeks before departing for the USA, she was busy in NSW attending APRA’s Song Summit. While in Sydney and its environs, Connie Kis performed at the Horseshoe Bend Roundup, Antill Park Golf Club, Beresfield Bowling Club and Blacktown Country Music Club as well as visited Sydney radio stations playing her Australian single: Once Again, the title track from her award winning album of the same name.
Since her return home, Andersen has been busy co-ordinating the successful Girls Gone Gospel Show on behalf of WA Country Music Promotions. The show was presented recently and warmly received at the Fremantle Italian Club; so much so, it will be performed again at the York Town Hall on August 23 and again in Perth, in December.
Apart from regular home gigs, Andersen is currently preparing for the release of her next Australian single: What People Say out to radio early August on NFS 124, track 14.
Promoting her music from Perth, the most isolated capital city in the world isn’t easy, and at times the obstacles are downright difficult. Never-the-less Connie Kis is continues to follow her true passion and is a successful, shining example to other free spirits to live and think outside the box, despite the good opinion of others. What People Say; the up-beat new single reflects just that.
Her current album: ONCE AGAIN is available through all good independent record stores and online at CD Baby, Gum Tree Music, Doubleday Book and Music Clubs, the Country Music Store (Brisbane).
The album is distributed by Kismana Music on ph: (08) 9367 9340

Girls Gone Gospel
Hellfire and brimstone sermons are usually associated with gospel music, but not on Saturday August 23 at the Town Hall in York when music fans will get the opportunity to hear some of Perth’s finest singers come together to offer simply classic gospel songs laced with sweet harmonies.
Songs such as Amazing Grace, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, Peace in The Valley made famous by Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves and the likes will be re-born with the soaring vocals of accomplished female vocalists Connie Kis Andersen, Vicki Lee, Karen Rudge and Tracie Redding.
Gracing the stage too is male vocalist Denny Collier from the very popular, iconic show band, Frisco who will be backing the singers and playing dance music after the show.
Brendon T Moylan, well known to Perth country music fans as the Presenter from Curtin Radio’s, Born in Boots will be there as MC.
And as for the Girls Gone Gospel … audiences will be enchanted with performances by;
Vicki Lee … who was recently awarded Best Country Female Vocalist and Best West Australian Gospel Vocalist at the 2008 W.A. Country Music Awards, held at Boyup Brook. She is also recognised as the front singer for the band Southbound.
Karen Rudge … an accomplished musician in her own right, having had early formal training in the UK playing Sax, Clarinet. For over 10 years, Karen fronted the bands Sistermatic and Missbehavin, wowing Perth audiences with their fabulous shows and memorable harmony arrangements that were likened to the Andrew Sisters.
Tracie Redding … No stranger to the stage, this singer /songwriter has opened for acts such as Kate Ceberano and Gangajang. She has graced the stage in award winning musicals and fronted bands at a national level. Tracie’s greatest passion is songwriting and her tunes are attracting interest internationally.
Connie Kis Andersen … awarded the 2008 Best Independent Country Music Album WA for her current album and in 2006 as the Best Country Female Vocalist WA. Having had chart success on the Australian Top 30 Country and interest in her music is the US, Connie Kis tours the East Coast and the USA regularly. When in Perth, she fronts the duo, Kis’n Tel.

Sharon Shares Her Trip Out West With Some Amazing Kids
Hi All
Being a Finalist in the Golden Saddle Awards is absolutely awesome! I must admit, I actually thought they made a mistake (Ha! Ha!). Seriously, I am very proud of my debut album ‘Second Chance’ and very honoured to have worked with talented Producer Herm Kovac. I released ‘Second Chance’, over the Christmas period at the Woodford Folk Festival, Tamworth Country Music festival and Yabun festival in Sydney and the reviews so far have been excellent.
I just returned from a tour out West where I hosted songwriting workshops with Primary and Secondary students from Collarenebri, Lightning Ridge and Walgett schools. It was an amazing experience and the students were very keen to participate. Some were shy and a little apprehensive at first but we turned the whole experience into a fun time.
Sometimes we need to reflect on other people’s situations and go and see for ourselves how we can make a difference. I shared my skills and stories with these students in the hope of helping them to communicate. Too many of our kids suffer from depression and school bullying and sometimes tend to keep it all inside.
We talked about those terrible things teenagers don’t like to talk about, feelings and emotions and ways we can express these issues by writing them down and maybe turning them into lyrics for a song. (Some of these kids pointed out they didn’t have much time for country music so we wrote some hip-hop).
The experience was truly amazing and if I made a difference to one child, that’s one child that can help pass on those skills and teach others.
Regards Sharon Lane

With New DVD "The Bazaar Clips" the newest songs plus a few favourites and we'll have our 3 CD history with as well - Totally Gourdgeous; d'vine; Stroke of Midnight
And as often found here, tour stories to cover a tea break or two - Bon Appetit
|
 |
So at the start of June we sat in Western Australia's southern town of Denmark. TG had been called to their Voice Festival. Many of our festival favourites were there - Kavisha Mazzella with Kikky; Simon Nield & family (long hugs dear friends), Teresa Hughes for bonus songs & harmony and an extraordinary group of 5 ladies (Iris) sang well into our hearts while local theatre folk spiced up the outer world with poise and intrigue.
We knew TG were about to head to the northern tip of Denmark, Europe and we really should have made a T-shirt to suit "Denmark to Denmark". It all seems quite surreal.
I began my birthday "month" a week earlier at home (ran it through SydneyMelbourne/Fremantle/ Adelaide/Riverland) - much love & thanks to those at the right place, right time.
The Ingredients
A month earlier, a chance meeting with a Florence, Italy, couple at a House concert in Tallebudgera Creek, GoldCoast (thanks Selena), had insisted I come play at their favourite Sicilian town, Ficarra in August.
Just before, an email on myspace from mid germany through local piano& celtic Art devote, Peggy Gilchrist, revealed a relation of Django Reinhardt and an artist par-excellent from original Disney animation, Lulo & Lela - checkout their myspaces - links are on mine.
Three years earlier I meet The Beez, of Germany, at Pt Fairy Folk Festival. They are also friends of best friends in Berlin & I invite them to The Supper Club TamFest 07 - both times alongside Totally Gourdgeous. They implored that we come to Germany under their guidance and suddenly (with much hard work!) all the tendrils lent into the same direction to form a bold tour of 2 months based out of Berlin.
The Tour
Wongawilli, also from Australia, joined TG and The Beez for a tourdeforce start at the BKA Theatre, Berlin on June 2. Jane Brownlee had been working long at a London school, great to catch up with the Wonga family tour again. I cannot say with enough thanks how much we appreciate the work The Beez Inc have put into making this tour an historic event for us. Please make sure you check out their amazing performance both live (Australia again from this Xmas to March 09) and on display at www.thebeez.de .Classic versions of unexpected songs - my personal favourite is their take on ACDC's "HellsBells (with an "Angels Chimes" reprise) - absolutely brilliant. And so we set off....
..... to the absolute tip of Denmark. Skägen where the North Sea meets the Baltic Sea. Not only TG but we also gave friends from Oz - The Borderers - an extra spice with Mal Webb on slide trumpet & my ol' Epoch 5-string Fiddle. I also had a lash with Folk rockers, 'Tempest ' - looking very heavy metal! And it seemed like Pt Fairy had moved to Europe, - yay The Ploughboys with Marcia Howard & Trouble in the Kitchen.
Our new boy, Rob Longstaff took a bike ride to the ocean tip with a local lass and ended up in ambulance maneuvers 60kms from the gig in the morning's wee hours! Just a little bump in the road threw the lass off her bike - ambulance/hospital/recovery/taxi back $A150 - back just in time for our morning concert! Rob learnt a few things from the "call of the wild". He saw the chaos through, stood by the unfortunate lucked lass and received the taxi fare back from the grateful father later in the day. Eventually he slept and likely dreamt an alternative ending to the evening's adventure! Rob - you're a legend!
A surprise contact from Penelope had us next day at an Ecological Summer school near Arhus - bicycling 20 km round trip to their gig ( and an unexpected English lesson workshop! ) - much thanks to Laz & family. This was also a spring board via a day before's call, to Yaster and the seceded Christiania community in Copenhagen. A gig of incredible spirit and dance on a makeshift street stage with cars pausing till the ends of songs to go through or, as they eventually did, just block off and join the party. Finale was a duet between Mal on slide trumpet & a Tibetan dressed dane godmother playing a 5 metre Alp Horn! Great to have family at the last minute gig too - somewhat intrigued at the variety of free-er thinking folk but 3 yr old grand niece, Matilda, saw all as fair game for a dance & a wiggle.
The Observations
Laz and their community specialize in helping people becoming financially independant of home loans by building extremely temperature and cost efficient houses with sometimes earth roofs, hay-bale & earth mix rendered walls. High temp, high mass heating units with near zero smoke from long dried timber etc. Christiania is more a squatting realm keeping the outward politics (and taxes) as minimal as possible. Our concert stage & new community area for which we played was, however, force-ably removed a week later by the police in their quest to "normalize" the area. The quest of Christiania however, goes ever onward.
There have been many housing areas in most capitals of the world held to ransom by property developers waiting for the profitable moment. In these dwellings, extremely efficient community spirited organisations have often succeeded in securing, for varying lengths of time, housing for the less financial folk - making good use of otherwise or at least temporarily abandoned buildings. The ingenuity applied in these areas is staggering and a reminder that there is much good possible from surprising sources when and where you least expect!
The development of wind power & solar energy enmasse across northern Europe is inspiring.
The Pictures
For a little look at some of the scenes captured in my "Big Pic" series which includes some from this tour - see http://www.panoramio.com/userfeed/2010087.rss
The pictures are variously built from up to 24 pics!
The Bonus
Our German comprehension & speech has received a real ramp up and I get further time with my once distantly living relations. My dearest cousin, Kerstin has often gone out of her way to unite me with the far flung family ties. For me, this is very exciting. An outside path to uncovering inward tendencies and traits! It has been a very treasured time. The growing number of close new friends keep the heart fresh and mind alert - particularly across various languages.
The Trail Continues
So southward to around Stuttgart, with a Dinner show at Kürnbach. A total joy of food, horses & forest walks. Thanks to Silke for making it over too - last time seen in a secret waterhole in the Adelaide hills. I saw my first mole, (underground mammal critter) and a wild array of orange shell-less snails! A very intimate show first revealing our new gourdgeous musical instrument, the "Who-loo-ser" from South China! For those new to Totally Gourdgeous, instruments made from gourds is the game and most luthiered by our Penelope Swales. We now have recorded over 14 gourd instruments in our CDs & variously performed at our concerts!
The Quirks Of Fate
I had by chance been spotted by long ago young Bluegrass picker, John Gill, outside Sydney Central Rail station, who had been in china much of the last 15 years - since last meeting. He pulled out this gourd flute! - on the day I fly out on the Euro Gourd Tour! Naturally he was compelled to donate it to the tour! Love ya John. And it has now become part of Mal Webb's sublime "One drop" song along side the 'Mbira' similar to kalimba (thumb piano). Dear Barbara Morison & mum Irene had been rendezvousing with me and....
Ok, a quick info story ... Mal Webb couldn't fit in his Acoustic Gourd Bass, for his extended trip to Europe and so I said I would take it, as I wouldn't be taking a guitar this time. However, I couldn't get it from Melbourne to Sydney. In steps Harsel, who joined me in Melbourne for a Dya Singh concert in Daylesford (great event, plus also made it to a beautiful Wake nearby that night - remeeting fiddle legend Nigel Maclean & friends) ... where was I ? Ah yes, so Harsel had driven down from Sydney and was able to deliver the bass up to Sydney. Only problem was I wouldn't be able to meet her there so a delivery to the Morisons was conceived...
So only on the whim decision, the Morisons and I, decide there wouldn't be time to go eat or coffee, so we just sat on the station wagon tail-gate and pondered the quirks of fate - when along came John over the street saying " Andrew? Andrew Clermont? and looking up I say " And you would be a banjo player from Casino who went to China (everything but a name, LOL! )"
The Who-loo-ser is a perfect compliment to the Mbira and Penelope with her hidden flute ability flowed perfectly together! Ya can't argue with such providence.
Pure Acoustic Concerts
Just over the border into Switzerland lies Frick and an inside/outside Cinema Cafe where we frolicked between various languages. It is rare for TG to do a gig standing up but we found it very useful for our roving Street/Cafe Festival style. Beautiful food and drink - a happy night indeed.
Going Cuckoo
By now I had well worn away the bow hairs but had a few days to find a repairer and visit cousin Bennie in The Black Forest. By good fortune it was also her sons 18th so I contributed to the 'go and do something radical' fund with a promise of photo evidence. Always a great stay in Hornberg between the Autobahn and Duravit's 'Biggest Dunny' Lookout - not too far from the worlds biggest Cuckoo Clock (the Cuckoo itself is about 4m long!). The castle/hill view there features on my 'snappadillion' myspace slide show!
Backnung is the home of Pilo and his train crossing Blues & World Music Bar and downtown Cafe bar with the archetype view included in the pic site above.
Baron Times
Though in reality, quite the opposite. A quaint village, Aldersheim, through Baron Louis, presents a Light and Multi-Media Festival across most of the town. What isn't lit from above is shadow dancing below. The Beez performed in the 'castle' moat while we were to start at 1am and play the town square for 20min as a finale. Well we finished nearer to 3am! The whole townsfolk dancing and singing with! Yay! To songs they'd never heard before! Always love that part.
Well more to tell but Time is too short and the mail must away. May you find your way to help folk where needed & able.
