Country Music Fundraiser

A country music show (with raffles) will be held from 11 am to 5pm at Bronco's Leagues Club on 15th June 2008 for New Zealand DJ Wendy Mitchell …Adults $10, Pensioners & children $8 (under 5’s free)

Wendy has been ill for the past 3 years with firstly a very serious leg poisoning from 3 thorns that were embeded in her leg . The infection was so severe she had to have flesh cut away so it would heal. She went through a lot of operations over quite a few months.....Wendy was still recovering from this when she found out she had cancer... Over the next couple of years, Wendy beat the cancer only to be told a couple of weeks ago she now needs operations on both cartledges in her knees. Wendy also has spinal trouble from a pervious accident.

Through all this Wendy has worked as a DJ most of the time (except for when she was undergoing the actual chemo and a day or so following) helping the independent country music artists around the world, especially those from Australia and new Zealand.

I have worked as a DJ with Wendy over this time and filled in when she couldn't do her shows....so I know what she has been suffering ....and the conditions she has worked through. I thought about doing this gig for her for a while as I know she needs time to let her body heal and thought a couple of weeks here in Australia, with time at the Gold Coast would be good for her, with her husband caring for her.

The artists have all donated their time for this gig and a big "thank you" to Geoff Kuehner for donating the room at Bronco's Leagues Club, Fulcher Rd, Red Hill.

The line up of artists are Chad Morgan, Dennis Morgan, Kylie Hogan, Bazza Salkeld, Jason Keisling and country rock band "The R Factor. . Thank you to those artists who have donated their time.

If you would like to add your name to the artists list, enquire about the show or make a donation of any kind (we are doing raffles) please phone Sue Maclaren on 0415 730 743

‘GoldRush’
Premiers At 2008 SA Country Music Festival

Tiffney Stroh revealed another side to this versatile young South Australian artist when she premiered her new band ‘GoldRush’ at the South Australian Country Music Festival in Barmera over the June long

Tiffney Stroh

weekend.

Performing before a packed house of over 400 at the Barmera Hotel, Tiffney and her band of talented musicians took to the stage and presented one of the most exciting and entertaining shows of the Festival.

‘Having my own band has always been a dream and after so many hours spent in rehearsals, Saturdays’ show was fantastic!. The audience was great and a big thank you to Bronny and Sam the proprietors and to the audience for your support.’

Featuring a repertoire including songs from the 30’s right through to modern day, ‘GoldRush’ comprising Tiffney on guitar & lead vocals, Josh Vercoe on bass, Ricky Poole on lead guitar, Olaf Stroh on Harmonica and the fantastic harmonies of Candy Latham proved that young talent is alive and kicking in SA. Stepping in at the last minute, Simon Wegener on drums added his unique sound for what was an amazing five hours of entertainment.

Sunday afternoon added yet another dimension of her versatility with the premiere of Tiffney performing an ‘up close & personal’ show accompanied by Josh & Candy. Again with amazing harmonies, guitar and bass, this exciting trio kept the audience riveted to their seats until rain forced them indoors.

The coming months will be busy for Tiffney as she prepares to release her first commercial CD, as well as complete both Yr11 & 12, continuing rehearsing and performing with ‘GoldRush’.

A booking from Rob Potts Entertainment Edge will see her onstage as the opening act for Adam Brand in July, further recognition of her acceptance within the Country Music Industry. A featured artist at the Bungaree Woolshed, the St Arnaud Hoedown & Truck Show, the Telstra Road to Tamworth in Melrose as well as many private functions will keep her well and truly in the forefront of the SA Country Music scene.

Currently the South Australian Senior Champion, 2008 Australian Country Music Association College of Country Music Graduate, 3 time Camerata Graduate as well as the recipient of many awards throughout Australia for performance and songwriting, this young lady is definitely heading to what will be an amazing journey as she heads to the top of her profession.

Tiffney Stroh & ‘GoldRush’ will be performing at the Mt Barker Town Hall on June 21st with guest artists: Graeme Hugo, Dave Verrall, Kristal Collins & Chooka Williams. Further information, bookings and general enquiries on this and other shows, is available via her website (www.tiffney.com.au) or by contacting 0428 968 213.

Amber Lawrence - Interview

Amber is quite an interesting girl. After you have finished reading the Interview & the News, why not got to her My Space site & see some of her "Blogging Alongs!

Q: Where were you born and where did you grow up?
A:. I was born and bred in Sydney.

Amber Lawrence

Q: Was there anyone in particular who played an influential part in shaping your career?

A:  Not particularly.  But the first band I ever worked in had musicians who were 20 years older than me, so I guess they were very influential on me. The band was called ‘The Family Von Trapp’.

Q: You haven’t been in the industry all that long, how long is it since you first got started?

A:  I’ve been singing professionally for about 7 years now, and songwriting for about 5.

Q: What year did you do your first recording?

A: My first recording was The Lonely Road in 2004.

Q: You are an accountant … what was it that made you decide to go into the music industry?

A:  I guess I had no choice, because I absolutely love singing, and it was torture not being able to do it and having to go to work everyday in a job I hated.  So eventually there came a point where I realized singing was the only thing that would make me happy.

Q: I went & had a look at your Blogging Along on My Space, you have a bit of a talent in that area as well.

A: thank you – it’s something I’m developing further. I hope to host my own TV show someday!

Q: In total, how many cds have you recorded?

A:  My Ep – I’ve Got the Blues and My Album – The Mile

Q: You write most of your own material as well

A: Yes, all of the tracks on the EP and Album are written or co-written by me

Q: I believe you have some favorite places for writing, like granny flats for example

A: Ha yes, I like cosy writing spaces.

Q: Maton recognized the talent they saw, becoming you sponsor.

A: I was so excited when I received my new Maton in the mail last year! It’s a great guitar, and it’s a great honour to be sponsperd by them.

Q: You did a tour with The McClymonts, entertaining the troops in East Timor – want to elaborate on that?

A:  Entertaining the troops has so far been one of the highlights of my musical life.  It was such an honour. And of course to be on the tour with The McClymonts was fabulous as the girls are friends of mine, and are heaps of fun to be around.

Q: Your most memorable occasion?

A: Entertaining the Troops, and performing Live for TV at the 2008 Golden Guitar Awards

Q: Your most embarrassing moment

A:  Dislocating my shoulder on stage!

Q: You have been awarded some pretty special awards, would you like to tell me about them.

A: I was awarded the Female Artist of the Year at the Independent Awards last year. That was a great honour.  I have also been awarded the Coopers Golden Saddle Award, plus lots of other nominations.

Q: I have placed the titles of the tracks below, and you may add a comment to any or all of them if you wish.

A:  Please refer to the comments about each track on my website.

Q: Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t already mentioned?

A:  No - thank you!!

The Mile

Amber Lawrence-The Mile

1. Feels Fine
2. Things That Bring Me Down * I wrote this song in the comfort of my granny flat – the organised but very cluttered and messy place I call home. I live my life by extremes, and I think this song reflects it. I work hard and I have fun, but I am always paying for it. Be it by constantly trying to clean up my room, waking up late, or eating too many donuts (my favourite food), it’s really having too much of a good thing that brings me down. Personally, I haven’t changed, and I think I will always live by those rules.
3. Won’t Let Our Love Die
4. Good Girls * This song flows nicely from ‘things that bring me down’. I wrote good girls because I have a bunch of girlfriends who seem to lead much calmer and saner lives than I do. One night after chatting with one of my best friends, I had a think about why I keep getting into trouble and I think it’s because I just can’t behave myself for long enough. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see myself as a ‘bad girl’, but things like forgetting birthday’s, leaving things in a mess, saying dumb things and not being able to cook, make me think I have a few things to learn. I love the way that Rod and Jeff produced this song, and I think it’s kind of cool to not always be a good girl!
PS… I can cook cupcakes!
5. Just Us
6. Gonna Fly
7. The Mile
8. You Saved Me * Love does strange things to people. This is a song that I didn’t intentionally sit down to write. The “You Saved Me” melody came to me after I farewelled my lovely boyfriend after a great day. I truly felt ‘saved’, and lucky to have found such a great person. I wrote the rest of the song, and then worked on some finishing touches with my mate Luke Dixon. By the way, I used to be a Surf Life Saver at South Maroubra, so all the life saving and water references came easily (not that I ever saved anybody)!!
9. The Tide
10. Soldier
11. Love You Like No Other* I wrote this song originally about myself, but after realising I had too many love songs for one album, I changed the words and made it about a ‘friend’ of mine. This song was started in my granny flat, and finished in another granny flat on Norfolk Island. I must like small spaces for writing! It’s a feel good song about someone who’s finally given in to love!!!
