Late Bloomer’s Wildflowers
Named NT Song Of The Year
Clelia Adams’ composition, Wildflowers, the title track from her new album, was named song of the year in the Northern Territory Country Songwriting Awards announced at last weekend’s Katherine Country Music Muster.
Clelia’s tip of the hat to tradition, but with a totally modern style, took out the contemporary song award too. This news comes one week after the song was voted most played single on European radio. |
 |
Up until a couple of years ago Clelia had never felt she had the skills to write songs. She had been content to be known widely as an interpreter of songs. However, Heartbeat Highway the title track of her previous album, was the first song she wrote – and it took out the prestigious Gentleman Geoff Brown TIARA award in Tamworth 2006.
“I’m absolutely blown away at the response I’ve had to Wildflowers,” Clelia said. “Not only has the European market lapped it up, it’s also getting a very reasonable hearing at home here in Australia. I am just so pleased to have come up with a song that’s struck a chord with so many people. I couldn’t be happier.”

Good News For David Delle-Vergin
Hey there friends...
Dave makes the HOT FM TOP 100 Country chart for the first time!!! Woo Ooh
"Sing Hello Mary Lou" Daves new NFS 121 Country Radio Release and the 4th track on the "It's Just Turned Drinking Time" EP slips into the Chart this week 10th May as a newbie, let's hope it it sticks for a little while.
|
 |
The first 2 tracks "It's Just Turned Drinking Time" and "Waiting Here" have been very successful for Dave in terms of Awards and Nominations and we hope that Dave's music may finally start to get picked up and played a little more often.
Ironically, "Sing Hello Mary Lou" is largely an autobiography of Dave's life in music and singing all the old favourites to audiences everywhere and trying at the same time to get audiences listening to his own original music and stories.
Dave would like to thank all the DJ's out there doing a great Job and all the friends and fans that ring in and support the music.
Currently he's back in the studio finishing off a New Album with another 9 new great original tracks to go with the 5 already off the EP. Once again using the great talents of Harry Jon Nanos as music producer for the album and Nathan Warrick co-writing some of those great guitar tracks along with some fine Pedal steel & Dobro work from Dave Moore and a quite a few surprise guests that can't be revealed at this stage.
The New Album should be ready for release around mid year.
Dave has already been asked to appear on the NINE & WIN Networks Saturday morning kids show ( A National Show seen on every Network Station in Australia ) to promote his new Album and to talk about Country Music. The episode will air in October this year. He's really looking forward to that and also another good year getting his music out there for people to hear.

Hello Everyone Paddy McArdle here, and proudly introducing
Doug Jones
- from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Doug has spent many years in the music business, traveling across Canada playing cover tunes in nightclubs, festivals, stampede parties and corporate functions. Delivering high-energy concerts with passion and enthusiasm.
Leaving the music business for a while to pursue some other business ventures but music being in his blood he just couldn’t resist getting back into the music business. “I have just come from a family that is involved in Music and the Arts” with sincerity, he simply replied.
Doug is also a songwriter. Writing country ballads and country rock songs, some of his songs are from personal experiences. He co-write’s |
 |
with other songwriters as well. Artists such as: The Eagles, Bob Seger, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley and Toby Keith, and who have influenced his own writing style. He also has some songs on the European Country Music Chart and on the Roots True Country Chart. Doug, is married and has two grown-up kids, a son and daughter and two grandchildren, a boy and a girl.
I asked Doug to relate a couple of experiences we all encounter in Country Music travels, here are a couple, word for word as written by Doug.
Here's a story from my first road trip:
We arrived at the Sudbury Hotel, (Sudbury is in Northern Ontario ) what a dump, it reminded me of Hell’s Kitchen!
It was a packed house with clientele that you only see in movies, or, your worst nightmare, this was a scary joint! The epitome of a dive. There where mostly drunks and nobody really cared what you played as long as it was noise. The 1st 2nd nights everything went fine. The 3rd night everything seemed to be going great, or so I thought.
Off to one side, I noticed a man & a woman about in their mid-thirties, just talking. Another man walked up to the table and started to argue – fists started to fly – some on-lookers tried to break it up – people where jumping from table to table into the on-going battle – it was an honest to goodness Bar Room Brawl!
The bouncer, a young guy with no neck, and arms like thighs, ran over and yelled, start playing and turn up the volume. We played one song, (Lodi) over and over, it seemed like an eternity, like being in the twilight zone, while the police and the bouncers cleared up the brawl and took people away. Eventually it calmed down. Boy, where we glad when that week was over!
Another story from the road:
We went from uptown clubs and conventions to way down bars and less desirable parties, but you never knew what was going to make a gig remarkable. In fact, one of the least desirable gigs was held in a tent ---YES that’s right --- four poles holding the thing together and filled with Corporate Dudes. Whew, that’s scary! Not dancing, no toe tapping, and no smiles.
Halfway through the first set, a thunderous noise was heard.
We all looked at each other in fear. The situation was going downhill fast! You can’t miss the sound of a Harley. Oh Boy! The place started to be infused with leather and lace. Bikers and their Mamma’s! We stood there frozen as the biggest and meanest biker approached the stage. Can I use your microphone? I Mean would I argue that --- I don’t think so. SSSSSure.
This large menacing hulk blasted into the mic ---- "Listen up everybody!" We have a great band here tonight! I want to see everybody up on the dance floor, (which was dirt) Cause these guys are going to play some good old rock n roll! The crowd went wild and for the rest of the night the dance floor was packed. That "menacing hulk" turned out to be our to be our buddy and a great motivator! What started as a crappy gig, turned into one of my most remarkable and memorable experiences.
So you see, motivation by fear and intimidation also has its place
Even I - Paddy can sure relate to that story
A great big thank you to RhonBob Promotions RhonnieS@aol.com and WHP (Western Hear Promotions & Records) gbradshaw3@cox.net for believing in me. I wouldn’t have been this successful without Rhonnie and Gary. Also, many thanks to all the www.DJ’s for all their support. It is very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
A thankful

NZ Award Winner Ginny Peters Releases Single
"It’s Alright"
from lost US album recording Buttefly Wings to Australian radio on NFS 122 |
 |
Ginny Peters one of New Zealand’s leading female artists of the 80’s andbeyond, reached a pinnacle in her career last year when she was inducted by Bob Everhart in Iowa into the US Old Time Hall of Fame.
This year, she releases a unique recording uncovered after many years.
Ginny is well known in the US with recording ties to legendary music host Cliffie Stone producer of the longest running country music television show on the West Coast of the USA. Hometown Jamboree featured all the big artists of the time including Elvis Presley and Hank Williams.
At the time that Cliffie produced Ginny’s album he was in charge of the Country Division of ATV Music Los Angeles in the process of being purchased by Michael Jackson.
Cliffie is remembered as a member of the CMA Hall of Fame in Nashville Tnn, The Hollywood Walkway of Stars, The DJ Hall of Fame and the holder of many distinguished honours.
He was responsible for hit recordings by Tennessee Ernie Ford (Sixteen Tons) Merle Travis, Tex Williams (Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette) Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant and many more.
Butterfly Wings is an album that the NZ singer|songwriter Ginny Peters recorded in California under the direction of Cliffie Stone, during the time he headed Capital Records A&R.
The recordings took place over two periods, November 1985 and May|June 1986. Cliffie Stone assembled some of the very top musicians to back Ginny’s sessions – musicians like Jack Daniels (Highway 101) in guitar, Curtis Stone (Highway 101) on bass, Jay Dee Maness (Desert Rose Band and The Band) on dobro and steel Brian O’Doherty (Ricky Nelson) on keyboards and Doug Atwell (Western Union) on fiddle.
Two singles were released in New Zealand by RCA, but with a change in management they decided not to release the album, and in the process the master tapes were lost. After Cliffie’s death, his wife Joan Carol found another complete set and Butterfly Wings is the result.
Ten of the songs were written by Ginny, with I Only See You recorded 12 times, and In the Arms of A Memory, a hit in Australia for Brian Letton.

Gordon Ellis - Memory Machine
Powerful Rangy Voice Doing Great Original Country. Songs about real people and real life sung with power and emotion. Songs to make you laugh cry, or feel romantic. Some are happy some are heartbreaking, some are just fun to listen to. Music that affirms that we are all connected. Hopefully it is just what you need to hear when you hear it. |
 |
Gordon Ellis grew up in New York City--not exactly the country music capital of the world. Early musical influences included the vocal styles of rangy voiced artists like Roy Orbison Elvis, and Jay Black (of Jay and the Americans). He began writing songs in his teens but was too shy at the time to share them with anyone. His first group THE FORTUNES, did rock and folk cover tunes.
While attending the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a B.A. in Psychology he was drawn to the honesty and simplicity of country music picking up influences of artists like Ray Price and Johnny Bush, and even Conway Twitty and Glen Campbell, among others. There, he performed as part of a duo around campus occasionally throwing in an original song. After college Gordon moved to the San Francisco Bay area more for his own personal growth than for music, but it was there that he began perfecting his songwriting and performing skills. He performed on the streets of Fisherman’s Wharf for tips as a duo in coffeehouses and later, with his own country band GORDON ELLIS & the All Night Ramblers doing mostly originals. While living in California Gordon was a male vocal finalist in the Nashville Talent Search held at the famous Saddlerack night club hosted by Bill Anderson and televised throughout the San Jose and San Francisco area. He was also featured on the Bay Area TV show Sidewalks which spotlighted local talent. During this time Gordon won several songwriting awards and a vocal performance award in the Music City Song Festival. He also hosted an open mic for the Northern California Songwriters Association. After much encouragement Gordon moved to Nashville in 1990. Since then he has performed extensively around the Nashville writers club circuit including the Bluebird Cafe Douglas Corner, The Hall Of Fame Lounge and The Commodore Lounge. He was featured on the Viacom TV show Writers Night in 1990 and has been the featured artist/writer at numerous writers nights over the years most recently, sharing the stage with Razzy Bailey at The French Quarter. Gordon has had numerous songs published and a number of songs recorded by independent artists including most recently, Bluegrass singer Marci Salyer Irish country singer Bernadette Kristin Randsell, Danny Mack, and the Canadian group Steele Heart. He has his own publishing company Gordel Music, and recently released his first cd “MEMORY MACHINE”, on his own label Optimum Records. Cuts from this cd have been played on radio stations in the United States Europe, Australia, and New Zeland. He also has a two song EP available called “One God/One Family”. In July 2003, Gordon did a one hour telephone interview with Mark Lindsay of wdyn.net Dynamic Independent Radio in Rochester N.Y. where Mark played most of the cd and talked with Gordon about his music. Gordon Ellis does not sound like your typical country artist but with a strong voice powered by a three octave range he sings his songs with passion and conviction--songs that are catchy and memorable--songs about real people real feelings, real life. When you get right down to it that’s what country music is supposed to be about isn't it! For more information about Gordon go to his website Gordon Ellis Music: www.gordonellismusic.com or e-mail: gordelmusic@hotmail.com
