Rhonda-Lee Releases "Solid Love" Album
Born in Inverell NSW, and growing up in Tenterfield NSW, Rhonda-Lee has always loved her music and blessed to be a part of a very musical family, with everyone from Grandparents, Parents (Stan & Elsie Barnes), Aunts, Uncles and brothers and sister singing and playing numerous instruments, Rhonda played piano before the age of five and always gave singing concerts off the back of an old truck in the paddock to any family member, friend or pets that would listen. Having Lindsay Butler as |
 |
a friend of the family was also an asset, her brother Terry played in Lindsay’s band for many years, she watched, played, and sang, learning from the “Masters” that guided her with her music career.
Struck down with Rheumatic Fever for three years when she was nine, Rhonda spent many hours listening to any music that was on the radio and her Dad would play his guitar and sing to her each night, sometimes he would sing the songs she had written during the day – she always knew that music would be part of her career and when older worked in some of the local restaurants and bands in the area singing and playing dinner/dance and country music.
Moving from Tenterfield to the Hawkesbury area in 1981 she formed the Russ and Rhonda-Lee Band working in the area as resident singer/musician at the Kurmond Roadhouse and Stockyard Restaurant, after the release of their album “Memories Linger On” (recorded at Hadley Studio’s, produced by Lindsay Butler) Barry Spicer from 2 CH and President of the 729 Club, asked them if they would become the resident band at the 729 Club in St Leonard’s Sydney, they accepted and continued there for six years. Good friend Charley Boyter joined their band over this time, performing the club circuits as well as donating time in find raising concerts, and working at the Tamworth Country Music Festival at the Longyard Hotel, Railway Hotel and various other venues during the festival over four years.
The Russ and Rhonda-Lee Band became the Rhonda-Lee Band when Russ decided to give away music and Rhonda continued on, performing with Charley Boyter as a duo, also working with many artists and bands over the past fifteen years as well as spending a lot of time writing.
After dedicating the last eighteen months to writing and recording, Rhonda has just released her solo album called “Solid Love” in March 2008, the album consists of sixteen tracks, including six originals –
1. Careless Heart
2. You Took Me To Heaven Tonight
3. Make Me One Promise |
4. Memories Linger On
5. I Can Climb Walls
6. Party All Night Long |
Rhonda has written “Heaven Tonight” and “Memories Linger On”, and Ginny & Errol Peters from Pegasus Music in NZ and Wendy & Errol Nichols (also from Pegasus Music) contributing some of the other originals.
The album was recorded by the very talented Glen Bain with other talented artists such as Wendi Jackson, Tracy Adams and Eddie Low providing the harmonies and with great musicians Glen Bain (Guitar, Bass Guitar, Strings), George Boyer (Piano& Keyboards), Marcus Holden (Fiddles & Mandolin), Griff Beale (Drums) and Emille Theeboom (Piano & Keyboards) – ensured the album is top quality.
Only Released in March 2008, the album is proving very successful, being aired on local fm stations across Sydney, Brisbane and New Zealand.

News From Peter Pratt
Hi everyone & I hope you’re all well. It’s been a quiet but good year musically so far with numerous festivals and gigs around the country. Over the last few months I have been dividing my time between the family farm and entertaining.
It was another good show at the Smithfield RSL Club in Sydney on the 10th Aug where a good crowd attended for an afternoon of country. It
|
 |
was also a chance to share the stage with Michelle Little, a good friend and fellow graduate of the CMAA “College of Country Music” Class of 2001. It’s great to see her performing again. I recommend you catch one of her shows as she is a very good entertainer and great singer you’re sure to enjoy.
On the 16-17th of Aug. I made the trip to Cooma NSW in the snowy country to sing at the launch of Jay Podgers new album “Feelin Like Winter”. Jay is another good friend and I wish him all the very best with his music.
From the snowy to the Murray and a great weekend at the “Echuca Workers country music festival” where a good crowd attended and enjoyed a good weekend of entertainment.
This week I’m off to sunny Qld for some shows and looking forward to some warmer Weather. However a bit of rain wont go astray in most areas so it would be nice to have some wet weather along the way.
Thank you for all your continued support and I look forward to seeing you all again down the road.
Gigs are on the Tours Page
Cheers,
Peter Pratt.

New Radio Single for Dean Perrett ‘The Dust of Kalkadoon’
After many deep thinking songwriting sessions and gathering songs from some very talented writers, Dean’s new album “A Thousand Campfires” is due for release in October 2008.
Once again Dean has gathered a strong collection of story songs and ballads from our land. Dean has also included two special duets on the album which I am sure his country music fans will enjoy immensely. This is definitely something to look forward to.
|
 |
The first single from the album ‘The Dust of Kalkadoon’ has now been released to radio and is gaining a lot of interest already. This song from the pen of Ian Quinn is about Kalkadoon Park at Mount Isa, where the famous Mount Isa Rodeo was once held.
Mount Isa Rodeo celebrates 50 years of top rodeo action this year. For 48 of those years ‘Kalkadoon Park’ was the patch of ground where many famous and hard fought battles between many great men and famous bucking stock took place.
The Rodeo ground was named after the Kalkadoon aboriginal people of the area who were fearless warriors. The song is written as the old rodeo ground recalling great memories and hard fought battles.
Go to www.myspace.com/deanperrettmusic1 if you would like to have a listen to a copy of the radio single ‘The Dust of Kalkadoon’.
“A Thousand Campfires” is Dean’s ninth album and could well be his best to date, so look out for a copy coming soon to your local Record Store.

Anne Conway - Phoenix FM “Newsflash”
Phoenix FM has a new studio
Phoenix 89.5 fm back on air
Annual General Meeting -
24th September 2008
Read ON for more details
Greetings to you all
|

On Air From Our New Home!!
The Australian Communications Media Authority (ACMA) has made a determination about time sharing
for the present licensing period. Phoenix FM will be on air from 6 p.m. on Sunday September 28th till
midnight on Monday October 6th, thus a precious eight days and six hours' opportunity for individual
people and special interests to reach our wider community. Our programme Group is in action designing programme content which will at very least offer as wide a variety of programmes of interest, information and musical enjoyment as that offered in our two previous on-air times this year.
Our search for new studio premises has now yielded excellent results, thanks to the determined
perseverance of Glenda, Peter and Anne and the support of the City Of Greater Bendigo. We will be
shifting into our new premises at 128 Reservoir Road, Kennington, soon. With the assistance of our enthusiastic volunteers, steam cleaning equipment and a bit of paint we will be operating from new studio premises of which we can be justly proud. All presenters, past, present and future, will need some training with our new equipment, obtained through the support and generosity of two community service grants we received earlier this year. Our sincere thanks is extended to the City Of Greater Bendigo, and Central Victorian Group Training, for the appreciation they demonstrated in the aims and objectives of a truly community access radio station and the key role it can play in the life of the rich and diverse community which Bendigo represents.
Annual General Meeting
Phoenix FM Annual General meeting will take place on Wednesday evening, September 24th @ 7 p.m.
at Providence Court, Wells Street, Long Gully. All who were fully paid up members of Central
Victorian Community Broadcasters Inc. on or before June 30th this year are eligible to nominate, second,
or be nominated or seconded, and vote, on this occasion. All persons interested in becoming involved with, or learning about Phoenix FM. are urged to attend on this special occasion.
Frequency Issue:
As part of its mandate, the A.B.C. wishes to introduce its News/Parliamentary Broadcast radio network
into Bendigo on 89.5 MHz. Should this prove successful, a frequency further up the FM. band, 101.5
MHz. will then become the sole community radio broadcast frequency. Submissions are currently sought
by the Australian Communications Media Authority. Expressing your views on this key issue will help
determine whether 89.5 MHz. remains a community radio frequency. 89.5 MHz. is where you will find
Phoenix FM . between Sunday evening September 28th and Monday October 6th till midnight. Be very
assured we will, in future, be broadcasting on air long-term on a FM frequency, but your support for the
retention of 89.5 is a support for the recognition of the importance of community access radio in our area.
You may send your letters or emails into us and we will forward them on, or you could write direct to the
A.C.M.A. Community Broadcasting section. The explanatory papers, draft variations to the licence area
plans and other related documents are available on the ACMA website (just google ACMA) or by calling
1300 850 115. Submissions close at 5 p.m. on September 19th. Thank you.
Geoff Morris
President
Central Victorian Community Broadcasters Inc.
Where To From Here?
Full evaluation of every program, in the context of the test transmission as a whole, has been completed.
The open hearted Bendigo community enthusiastically responded to the myriad opportunities true
community radio has to offer. Our currently vacant studio is being utilised by presenters wishing to
practice program presentation. This keeps their skills sharp in preparation towards our next transmission.
Phoenix FM is not just ‘our radio station’. The station belongs to those from the Bendigo and Central
Victoria communities who appreciate its values, philosophy and service ethic. Maintaining momentum needs sustained, hard work, but it’s all part of an extraordinary adventure.
Wish us all the best.
Phoenix FM says it will return - Cooma Monaro Express

Can Anyone Help Warren
G'day Joy
A quick ask if I could.
I have been trying to get a copy of a Brian Young album called “The Stockman’s Hall Of Fame”, there is a song on it called “The Land Of No Second Chance”.
I have been in contact with Brian, he doesn't have it, so the next quest is station libraries maybe?
I know that Slim did it, but we want Brian’s version. It is a pain when we had the album in our library, but it has walked.
Hope to hear from you soon

Shorty Ranger Memorial
Saturday 11th October has been set for the unveiling of the Bronze Bust of one of Australia’s country music legends, the late Shorty Ranger oam. After 12 months of fund-raising this historical event will take place at the Kempsey Museum, South Kempsey, at 1pm and promises to be a day of celebrations in honouring the name of one of the Macleay’s favourite sons.
Committee chairperson, Bluey Shelton said “This will be an emotional day for all of us as we honour a good friend and one of nature’s gentlemen. The Committee invites the public to join us in making this a day to remember. We would like to thank all those who helped along |
 |
the way in particular the A.B.B.A. who raised $4,500 with their benefit concert at Tamworth in January plus the artists who freely gave their time to take part in the major fund-raiser “The Shorty Ranger Memorial Concert” at the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club on 26th April, which raised $11,000.
The day will give a sense of pride and achievement knowing that our goal was reached by public participation and without any Government help whatsoever, as that was denied us.”
For more enquiries regarding the day plus CD’s and the “Shorty Ranger Life Story” DVD ring (02)6581 1148.
The Kempsey Museum is situated alongside the Tourist Information Centre in the park on the Pacific Highway at South Kempsey. We look forward to catching up with all of Shorty’s fans on 11th October.
We know he will be watching down on us on the day and still would be saying “Yours With A Smile And A Song!”

New Single New Clip For Melissa
Too Long Between Drinks Out Now on CMC

Melissa Bajric released her latest video clip to CMC last month.
‘Too Long Between Drinks’ Melissa’s second video clip was filmed earlier this year. It follows the successful 2007 release to radio and television of ‘Luckiest Girl’ from Melissa’s latest album ‘Small Town Girl’. Both clips by producer Ross Wood.
Melissa says ‘This time we've made a band clip and it was so much fun. Waddo, my guitarist, along with Neil on bass, Jeff on banjo, and Sidey on drums all joined in and it wasn't long before the laughter, jokes, and music were all flowing.’
‘Our location was this amazing little church that had been converted into an art studio.’
‘When Ross first suggested a church for a song called ‘Too Long Between Drinks’ I have to admit I was a little nervous, but as he continued and told me more about it the location sounded great and he was spot on. It was the perfect location.’
Log on to Melissa’s site to view both clips and follow the links to CMC request:

This is the third consecutive year that the girls have been the top selling artist at the Muster: Their debut album ‘Little Bit Rusty’ was also the highest selling album at the 2005 event as was their 2006 release, ‘Long Five Days’. |
 |
This follows on from ‘Dust Will Settle’ debuting at #1 on the ARIA Australian Artist Country Albums Chart in August and the video clip for their first single, ‘Acting Stupid’ staying at #1 on The Country Music Channel’s Top 30 Countdown for the second week.

Ronni Rae Rivers
Ronni Rae Rivers anything but ‘Stranded’ at ASA Songwriting Awards in Sydney last week |
 |
Ronni Rae Rivers is anything but ‘Stranded’ in the list of finalists for tomorrow night’s ASA Songwriting Awards in Sydney. Five originals all from her new album ‘Whole Heart To Give’ due to be released on October 11 made the Top Ten finals.
It’s likely the only word surrounding the WA country singer is Gobsmacked!!
Somewhat of an understatement, Ronni was originally shortlisted in twenty places in this year’s ASA Awards in seven of thirteen categories including four in Country.
It’s not everyday a songwriter can count on one hand Top Ten nominations in several categories in the nation’s premier songwriting awards. Ronni Rae was ultimately selected in five sections, and equally amazingly, named a nominee in the prestigious Rudy Brandsma Award.
‘Stranded’ is the track that obviously impressed the judges making the grade in the most prestigious of all, the Rudy Brandsma Award, a discretionary award initiated in memory of one of the co-founders of the ASA in 1979, Rudy Brandsma. A standout track, it’s listed in the International, Open and Rock|Indie Sections, ‘Waiting On Lonely’ in Ballad, and in Spiritual ‘Things I Want’.
ASA Chairman Denny Burgess had this to say when he spoke with Ronni personally last week, ‘I am continuously amazed at what you are doing in your career and your progress as a songwriter since winning the overall Country category in 2005.’ Ronni Rae co-wrote 'Janine, care of the stars' with Mark Donohoe to take out the ASA Country Award three years ago.
The advance first single from the new album, ‘I Would Want To’ released last month to radio was produced in Sydney by Herm Kovac. The country roots track is a dynamic balance between contemporary and traditional country music genres.

Vernon Oxford
Vernon Oxford is preparing to return to Ireland in October for a 2-week tour. He is recently back, appearing with Gene Watson, George Jones, Ricky Skaggs and other notable traditional country music stars.
Everett Corbin, former editor of Music City News (1966-67) is still doing some limited promoted, in his 76 year. Incidentally, Vernon Oxford made it to No. 4 on The Music Review Chart out of Poughkeepsie, N. Y., in June with Everett's angel song: God, That Was A Close One, with Everett making the chart for the first time in his life, with his recitation of The Patriotic American... |
 |
Sometime last year, another one of Everett's patriotic songs: The Flag Has Disappeared, made it to No. 1 for Vernon Oxford on that same Music Review chart.
Now, Everett is doing some promoting with still another song from Vernon's 2006 album: Vernon Oxford sings Gospel, Country & Bluegrass...the song being: I Want To Do A Good Thing.
That song made it to No. 1 many months ago on the NCM: New Christian Music chart in England, but we had done no real promotion on the song in the U. S.
A video of the song is being mailed out to some djs, and those needing music by Vernon Oxford are asked to contact: Everett Corbin.
That video is taken from an upcoming DVD which he hopes will be ready by the time he returns to Ireland.
Everett also has a record list of Vernon Oxford material for sale, plus, lots of old country music, including videos and old country music shows and movies...
