An Interview With Foster & Allen

Q: Where were you born and where did you grow up?
A: Ballymor-Eustace County Kildare and grew up in Rathconrath, Mullingar County Westmeath
Q: When you’re not on the road where do you spend most of your time?
A: At home on the farm with my horse or at the races
Q: Was there anyone in particular who played an influential part in shaping your career?
A: The late Scottish accordionist Sir Jimmy Shand
Q: Is there a particular style that you have a “soft spot” for?
A:Traditional Irish music or I love anything by Strauss
Q: When did you first get started in the industry?
A: I started playing in public when I was 13 years old
Q: What was it that made you decide to go into the recording industry?
A: I always wanted to make records.
Q: You are still singing and doing appearances, any thought of retirement from “life on the road” yet?
A:Not a chance !

Q: Was there anyone in particular who played an influential part in shaping your career?
A: The Scottish duo, the Alexander Brothers
Q: In total, how many cds have you recorded?
A: About 40
Q: What year did you do your first recording as Foster & Allen?
A: 1976
Q: Was that your biggest hit?
A: Maggie in Australia and New Zealand and Bunch of Thyme in the UK and Ireland
Q: Did you have any idea it would that big?
A: Not a clue. We only hoped that we could make a decent living at playing music
Q: Being the artists that you are, presumably you have been awarded some pretty special awards & special recognitions, would you like to tell me about them.
A: We have numerous awards from the Irish Music Industry and loads of gold discs.
Q: You will be touring Australia in May & June ….this isn’t your first Australia tour, how many is this now?
A: This is our 15th trip in 24 years
The new album…. “Songs Of Love And Laughter” is a great album! It is very easy to listen to, most relaxing and enjoyable, a great mix of material ….and I have placed the titles of the tracks below
