Richard Alfred Ford Aitchison

Rick Aitchison was born in north western NSW. He was brought up on sheep and cattle stations. Ricko has a wealth of knowledge about the Australian bush and this has been reflected in his many songs. He has written thousands of songs, which have been recorded by some of Australia’s leading country music recording artists including Slim Dusty. Rick’s secondary education took place at Newington College in Sydney. His education put him in good stead for his career as a radio announcer and manager of numerous radio stations around Australia. He also worked as a script writer for television.

His first recording took place in 1954 on 78 rpm while at Newington College. He wrote his first song at the age of ten. For many years he entertained crowds all around Australia as Rick Ford. His Rick Ford shows in the early days of the Tamworth Country Music festival gave many of today’s now famous artists their first start in country music. Rick has won an incredible amount of song writing awards throughout his career. The pinnacle being the 2006 Songmaker at the Tamworth Songwriters Association Awards. His name now joins other honoured song writers on a plaque in Tamworth. Rick has recorded on 78 rpm, 45 rpm, 33 1/3 rpm and has released two CD’s – Since Mungyer Days and The Original Rick Aitchison both recorded at Lindsay Butler Studios. His rich, deep vocals really suit his bush ballad songs.

He continues to write great songs and win awards. He lives in Port Macquarie NSW with his wife Coral Rose, his Jack Russel, Jacko and his beloved cockatiel Matey.
