Rhonda Lee - Bio
Born in Inverell NSW, and growing up in Tenterfield NSW, Rhonda-Lee has always loved her music and was blessed to be a part of a very musical family, with everyone from Grandparents, Parents (Stan & Elsie Barnes), Aunts, Uncles and brothers and sister singing and playing numerous instruments, Rhonda played piano before the age of five and always gave singing concerts off the back of an old truck in the paddock to any family member, friend or pets that would listen. Having Lindsay Butler as a friend of the family was also an asset, her brother Terry played in Lindsay’s band for many years, she watched, played, and sang, learning from the “Masters” that guided her with her music career.
Struck down with Rheumatic Fever for three years when she was nine, Rhonda spent many hours listening to any music that was on the radio and her Dad would play his guitar and sing to her each night, sometimes he would sing the songs she had written during the day – she always knew that music would be part of her career and when older worked in some of the local restaurants and bands in the area singing and playing dinner/dance and country music.
Moving from Tenterfield to the Hawkesbury area in 1981 she formed the Russ and Rhonda-Lee Band working in the area as resident singer/musician at the Kurmond Roadhouse and Stockyard Restaurant, after the release of their album “Memories Linger On” (recorded at Hadley Studio’s, produced by Lindsay Butler) Barry Spicer from 2 CH and President of the 729 Club, asked them if they would become the resident band at the 729 Club in St Leonard’s Sydney, they accepted and continued there for six years. Good friend Charley Boyter joined their band over this time, performing the club circuits as well as donating time in find raising concerts, and working at the Tamworth Country Music Festival at the Longyard Hotel, Railway Hotel and various other venues during the festival over four years.
The Russ and Rhonda-Lee Band became the Rhonda-Lee Band when Russ decided to give away music and Rhonda continued on, performing with Charley Boyter as a duo, also working with many artists and bands over the past fifteen years as well as spending a lot of time writing.
After dedicating the last eighteen months to writing and recording, Rhonda has just released her solo album called “Solid Love” in March 2008, the album consists of sixteen tracks, including six originals –
1. Careless Heart
2. You Took Me To Heaven Tonight
3. Make Me One Promise |
4. Memories Linger On
5. I Can Climb Walls
6. Party All Night Long |
Rhonda has written “Heaven Tonight” and “Memories Linger On”, and Ginny & Errol Peters from Pegasus Music in NZ and Wendy & Errol Nichols (also from Pegasus Music) contributing some of the other originals.
The album was recorded by the very talented Glen Bain with other talented artists such as Wendi Jackson, Tracy Adams and Eddie Low providing the harmonies and with great musicians Glen Bain (Guitar, Bass Guitar, Strings), George Boyer (Piano& Keyboards), Marcus Holden (Fiddles & Mandolin), Griff Beale (Drums) and Emille Theeboom (Piano & Keyboards) – ensured the album is top quality.
Only Released in March 2008, the album is proving very successful, being aired on local FM stations across Sydney, Brisbane and New Zealand.
