Ranjit - Bio
Victorian crooner, Ranjit, now retired, was one of the most widely travelled entertainers in Australia .
The native of Sri Lanka works in every State - little wonder his weather-beaten Ford Falcon station wagon covers over 100,00kms during each year
The reason for Ranjit's popularity is his ability to pick songs that suit each audience, and deliver in a manner that leaves an indelible mark.
In 2003, Ranjit was invited by the family of the late and great Jim Reeves to be part of the annual Jim Reeves Jamboree in Carthage, Houston , Texas (Jim's hometown) - the first entertainer from outside the vast state of Texas to be bestowed this honour in the entire history of that event!
Jim Reeves has now been dead for more than 40 years!!
He also has had the great pleasure of touring with Engelbert Humperdinck, Barry Manilow, Glen Campbell, Helen Reddy and Lobo, opening their concerts in the major arenas of Bangkok , Kuala Lumpur , Singapore , Jakarta , Manila , Hong Kong , Seoul and Taipei in the 1980s.
Meanwhile, ranking among the highlights of his career in Australia is a major tour of the country during autumn/winter of 2000, which started in Merimbula and ended five-and-a-half months later in Adelaide , taking him though Sydney , Brisbane , Cairns , Darwin , Broome, Geraldton and Perth , and all the little/major towns in between.
Ranjit has also toured New Zealand - both islands - twice!
He worked regularly in the major clubs in cities like Dubbo, Bathurst, Orange, Deniliquin, Newcastle, the Central Coast, Parkes, Coffs Harbour, Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine coasts, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Warwick, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Launceston, just to name a few.
Ranjit's repertoire emanates mainly from the illustrious basket of nostalgia - featuring some of the classic hit tunes of Neil Diamond, Buddy Holly, Tom Jones, a bloke called Elvis, CCR, Dire Straits, Billy Joel, Elton John, Cliff Richard, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, ABBA, Ricky Nelson, Gene Pitney, Trini Lopez, Harry Belafonte, Neil Sedaka, a few show tunes and, of course, the lilting ballads of Humperdinck, Manilow, Pat Boone, Perry Como, Andy Williams and Campbell, just to name a few.
Yes, songs that have easily passed the test of time and are on everyone's lips almost throughout the day.
