John Colville & Primrose Henderson
John & Primrose

Multi-instrumental professionals of long standing, John Colville and Primrose Henderson have combined their diverse talents to create unique and innovative arrangements of Australian music and are always well received at Bush Ballad, Country and Heritage events.

John, a long time resident of SE Queensland and leading exponent of the button accordion, has carved out a highly individual niche utilising his Scots accent performing in Australia.

Primrose, also Scottish born, is a classically trained pianist and flute player who sings beautifully and plays a wee dram of ukelele!

John & Promrose - Bio

Until a few years ago John and Primrose had travelled very different musical paths.

The highlights in John's diverse musical career are too numerous to list but here's a selection. He was resident musician at Dreamworld and the Australian Woolshed for years - was musical director at Brisbane's La Boite Theatre - performed with Lyric Opera Queensland and the Queensland Theatre Orchestra - was a member of the legendary Bullamakanka in their heyday and Queensland Busking Champion in 1981.

In contrast Primrose has pursued a career as a classical pianist and flautist in both the UK and Australia and has played with a variety of orchestras and chamber music groups often featuring as soloist. She has been responsible for running and directing a number of choirs and concert bands and has taught and enthused countless young flute players, both privately and in schools.

Since combining forces a few years ago they have become a popular duo and are in demand to perform live and as session musicians at numerous recording studios.

Here is a selection of testimonials.

"John and Primrose presented a tribute to Stan Coster at the 2009 Nobby Heritage Festival. Rarely have I heard these songs performed so well, with such fine musicianship and superb vocals. Their attitude and commitment are a credit to Stan Coster's memory."
Ron (Boulia) Bates

"They are musicians with the rare quality of being able to present the songs and tunes of yesteryear and make them sound today."
Dave (The Bloke) Ovenden - Bullamakanka

"Accordionist extraordinaire and brilliant flautist - fantastic combination."
Alan Mackey - Strummers

"John is one of our treasures - long may he sing and play."
Bill Hauritz - Woodford Folk Festival

"They play with such feeling and emotion - qualities rarely encountered today."
Ossie Mazzie - Maestro

"A delightful blend of traditional and contemporary music - admirably performed."
Ed Scott - Producer

"Colville and Henderson stole the show with an impressive selection of songs encompassing a diverse range of topics and styles. Songs however are only part of the story, their multi-instrumental skills and relaxed charm and wit provide a winning combination."
