Denise Brooks - Bio

With a voice which has been described as one of the best female bush ballad voices in Australia and a stage presence that is warm and personable, Denise Brooks is a breath of fresh air on the Australian Bush Ballad scene and an emerging artist to be closely followed.

Denise has recently released her much anticipated debut solo EP - Pioneers and Poets which was recorded at Brad Wann’s TopCat Recording Studios in Alstonville NSW. The EP containing 6 tracks confidently displays Denise’s crystal clear vocals and story telling ability without compromising the quality and integrity of the instrumentation and is sure to appeal to both traditional and contemporary Bush Ballad and Country Music fans alike.

The theme of the CD is our pioneering history as described by some of Australia’s best Poets and Bush Ballad writers, in Ray Rose, Buddy Thomson and John Seers, and in particular 2 tracks on the album (Our Women Pioneers – Ray Rose and Through The Hard Times – John Seers/Bob Magee), are dedicated to the often understated role that women played in our history.

A Scene From Long Ago has been released to Australian Radio as a single on the NFS 118 compilation album and is also a music video currently being shown on the Country Music Channel. The song is also doing extremely well in the Polish Country Music Charts.

Another single from the CD – One Of Kidman’s Men was released internationally on Hillcrest 41 – Track 13 and is continuing to do well and introducing Denise’s unique vocals to the World. The success of the release has prompted Denise to explore other genres of country music that have a more wider appeal to audiences both in Australia and oversea.

Denise is still passionate about the Australian Bush Ballad style of music which is evident in her live performances and translates exceptionally well to recordings. She has won numerous Female Bush Ballad Awards and Overall Awards on the Queensland Country Music Festival circuit and is the only Bush Ballad artist to win the coveted Emerald Gems Of Country Overall Award. She was a top 4 Grand Finalist in the ABBA Bush Ballad Starquest Competition in Tamworth in both 2004 and 2005 as well as being a top 5 finalist in Female Vocal at the Gidgee Coal Bush Ballad Awards in 2006. She was the 2007 winner of the Encouragement Award at the Stan Coster Bush Ballad Awards at Bungendore. She also won Best New Talent at the 2007 Gidgee Coal Bush Ballad Awards.

Denise won 11 finalist nominations at Tamworth 2008 including TIARA (Tamworth Independent Artist Recognition Awards), Peoples Choice Awards (5 categories).
She is a Tamworth regular, as well as the annual Spirit of The Bush Festival at Boondooma and Widgee Bush Ballad Festival. She performed as the opening act at the main concert at 2007 Stan Coster Bush Ballad Awards at Bungendore to a rapturous standing ovation.

Together with her partner Bob Magee, Denise proved to be a huge hit with fans at the Blue Water Country Festival at Port Stephens in June 2007 as well as the Camooweal Drovers Camp Reunion 2007 and then again at the Nanango Festival.

She has toured extensively throughout Northern Queensland as part of the 2006 Country Classics Tour and in 2007 with the Brooks and Magee – The Balladeer and the Sailor tour.
2008 has been busy for Denise with over 40 performances at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, invitations to perform again at the Bungendore Bush Ballad Awards and the Spirit Of The Bush Festival at Boondooma. She is currently performing 5 nights per week at one of Australia’s most popular Caravan Parks in the Outback town of Longreach for the tourist season.

To further add to the accolades already provided for Pioneers and Poets, 2 of the tracks (One Of Kidman’s Men and Our Women Pioneers) were top 5 finalists in the NT Song Of The Year – Bush Ballad with the winner being Our Women Pioneers.

Denise has just joined forces with RhonBob Promotions www.rhonbob.com and is looking forward to what the future holds.
