Dean Perrett - Bio
Dean Perrett is one of the leading artists on the traditional side of Australian Country Music, having established himself as one of bush balladry’s shining singer/songwriters with strong lyrics and catchy melodies for songs written from Dean’s experiences in the cattle industry.
Dean’s music is very genuine. There is no sugar coated or plastic Bush Balladry here. Dean was born and raised and still works in the bush and his family have been in the cattle industry for 150 years. His song lyrics reflect the heart of someone who knows. Dean has a polished stage presence, honed from performing with many of Australia’s great traditional Country Music artists. He has also performed at various major country music festivals around Australia as a featured artist including the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Gympie Muster (main stage), Mildura Independent Country Music Festival, Toowoomba Country Roundup, Monto Country Music Festival, Katherine Country Muster and the Bungendore Country Music Festival. Dean is also an international performing artist having toured Jamaica and England performing country gospel music. With various festival bookings in place for 2006, Dean takes his own genuine style of music on the road performing concert tours with his own group “The Southern Cross Pickers” as well as many solo and duet performances across Australia. It is his deep passion for performing and the desire to just make great music that drives Dean on as an artist. Dean and his sister Kerri first recorded in 1989 and Dean’s first solo album was released in 1999. The tally of albums now stands at seven. It is reassuring to Dean and his many fans that 2006 marks the beginning of 17 years as a professional performer and recording artist, proving that he is no flash in the pan, but is indeed in the country music game for the long run.

Quotes from Country Music Capital News – June 2006 The working relationship between city producer Stuie French and cattleman Dean Perrett has delivered one of the great bush ballad albums this year”.John Elliott, Country Music Journalist and freelance Photographer
“The bush is my heart and soul so it is only natural that the Australian bush ballad style is my first musical love. The simplicity and uniqueness of the style makes it something very special and Australian country music needs to protect what is its very own musical style. I have never been afraid to try new things with my music. It keeps me fresh and creative as an artist and keeps me out of a musical rut.” Dean Perrett |
Charley Guitar
By Dean Perrett

There’s a Bloke we all know, he’s the life of the show
With a big cheery smile on his warm friendly dial and a nature that glows
With his Martin Guitar, he’s travelled afar,
It’s his fingers that sing as the D18 rings so play it Charley Guitar
Hey there Charley Guitar, you’re a wanderin’ star,
You were a right hand of Slim
Yeah you picked for the King
He called you Charley Guitar.
Well you’ve covered some miles, and had to battle life’s trials
You’ve been blessed from above with the ones that you love and the friendships you’ve made
So many Mates on the way, and we’d all like to say
You’re a fair dinkum bloke who’ll share a laugh and a joke so play your Charley Guitar
Hey there Charley Guitar, you’re a wanderin’ star,
You were a right hand of Slim
Yeah you picked for the King
He called you Charley Guitar.
With the Travellin’ Band, you’ve seen most of this land
Sydney Opera House Grand to the Red Centre Sand you’ve picked the Bush Ballad way
You’ve always played what you feel, you’re the true country deal
From bush halls in the scrub to the big Sydney clubs you picked it Charley Guitar
Hey there Charley Guitar, you’re a wanderin’ star,
You were a right hand of Slim
Yeah you picked for the King
He called you Charley Guitar.
You were a right hand of Slim
Yeah you picked for the King
He called you Charley Guitar
Here’s to you Boyter
