Clelia Adams -Bio
Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me a little better. I am an Italian born Australian country singer (hey, it does happen!). I started my career in music as a music journalist for Go-Set magazine (Australia’s first pop music magazine) in the late 60’s, then into Product and Marketing for WEA Records, before heading to London & Canada in the 70’s, working in the music industry overseas.
On returning to Australia in the mid 70’s, I moved to Tamworth (Australia’s Country Music Capital), drawn by the country music scene there and quickly became entrenched in the music scene. It was in Tamworth that I started my music career as a singer with my girl trio SKARLETT with Kate McCarthy and Jacqui Glynn, (photo in gallery) and also worked with the groundbreaking New England Rangers, the first country rock outfit in a rock and roll town. It was the early days of the Country Music, and the place was open armed to everyone. I stayed 25 years, had two beautiful children Daniel and Jessie, and a professional career in the studios of Tamworth, singing on literally hundreds of country music albums.
I am grateful for those years of Tamworth’s acceptance of me as an artist and their total support of my career, no matter what style of music I explored, which were many.
"Fine Company", my first solo CD, recorded in 1996, entwined all the styles of music I love to sing, country, blues, R & B and jazz. To my delight, the album received rave reviews.
In 2000, I made my sea change, and left Tamworth to live on the far north coast of NSW, to Mullumbimby in the Byron Bay shire.
The accolades kept coming in mid 2006 from The International CM Industry, when Clelia was nominated in the first round of artists in two categories for The European ECMA Country Music Awards, Artist Of The Year And Female Vocalist Of The Year.
Voted by the European CM Industry, this put Clelia in the company of internationals, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill & Our Own Keith Urban.
2008 kicked off with a bang for singer/songwriter Clelia Adams, with her induction onto the LBS Wall OfF Honour in January for her services to the Australian Professional Country Music Recording Industry. The release of her Wildflowers album in February saw Clelia's national and international profile fly very high indeed.
Massive Australian/New Zealand/European radio airplay saw “Wildflowers” reach #2 on the Mainstream European ECMA chart in June, and #11 in Australia, staying on the Countrytracks Top 30 for 15 weeks.
More accolades also came in May for Clelia's songwriting talent when “Wildflowers” took out Contemporary Country Song and Song of the Year at the Northern Territory Country Songwriting Awards.
The “Wildflowers” album has had a brilliant response from both live audiences and country music radio presenters and reviewers around the world for its beautiful presentation, song selection, superb musicianship and flawless production. Clelia pays homage to the greats, Emmylou, Hank, Lefty and many more on this album, a tribute to the best in traditional country music.
Clelia is on the road promoting “Wildflowers” and has performed at the 2008 Gympie Muster in August, with visits to the Gold Coast CM Club, South Grafton CM Club, Mullumbimby CM Club (hometown), Bundaberg CM Club (Qld), Yamba CM Club and Ballina CM Club. She will also be taking her band to Tamworth 2009 festival.
