Ann Pascoe – Bio
Becoming well known on the New Zealand country music scene, although a mature singer, Ann Pascoe has had a fast rise to success. Starting in 1999 to write country songs, she found out quickly that she would have to sing them herself. So taking singing lessons to learn the basics for a couple of year, she then stylised into country music.
Winning placings at local and not so local awards gave her the confidence she needed to carry on with her music. Her latest award being one of the three finalist in the Kiwi ProAm Award for Best Female Country Artist 2009.
Using the backing of Nashville musicians, and six albums later, she is able to set her voice amid the best music. An important factor when competing on the local and world wide music scene.
New Zealand music distributors Rajon and Jayrem have taken on three of Ann's albums between them. The percentage of country music artists in NZ being professionally distributed is not large, so this must be an endorsement of Ann's quality.
Working hard on her own promotion she now has a lot of world wide acceptance and praise of her style of music with country music radio stations all over the world playing her music. Placing her music with the very discerning Hillcrest multi-artist disc from Canada, which distributes to world wide radio stations has been a very beneficial move in the terms of promotion. The fact that Ann is deemed good enough to be included on these discs is yet another endorsement of her singing ability.
Ann is regularly included on the ECMA charts http://www.europeancma.com/chart.htm in the Top 100 - collated from airplay. This chart is a good indication of progress by an Independant artist featured with radio airplay reports. Ratings on the Joyce Ramgatie Top 200 charts, is also a good showing. http://www.eboards4all.com/206687
Other comments include Roy Cost, USA 2009 (roycost@conwaycorp.net ) "Ann Pascoe has a beautiful and sweet voice with her own style. She delivers a song with deep emotion as if she has lived out the songs personally. I am a recording artist, musician and songwriter and see the mechanics in a song as well as the great job she has done as a vocalist on them."
Robert Everhart 2009 (bobeverhart@yahoo.com ) "Traditional Country Music in New Zealand. Balladeer Ann Pascoe has been nominated for induction into America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame. Her soft voice and bold approach to traditional country music makes those of us familiar with her work and the huge history of country music, think of her as the female Jim Reeves."
I.Renie Peterson, Songwriter, USA 2008 (renie-Ipsrecords@comcast.net ) "Dear Ann, thanks for letting me listen to the recording you've done to date on "Christmas Dreamin". As a record producer of nine CDs, I like your voice very much and find your phrasing quite unique and impressive."
Over the years, at home Ann has supported both overseas and New Zealand artists and is no stranger to live performances. Her latest supporting role was for the very popular Hermann Lammers Meyer from Germany on the last week of his three week January 2010 tour out here during the summer.
It was also a thrill to record three duets with Hermann while he was in NZ – and one “Foggy Mountain Top” is being released on Hillcrest 53 this month (March 2010)
She also features in festivals with her own band OLDOGS, and they are a popular act at both the Marton Festival, Bay of Islands Country Rock and Hokianga Country Music Festivals.
"A tight group" as in the musical way - and "refreshing" have been comments on Ann and the band's performances when they perform material from Ann's albums, do some country rock and clown around with country songs.
Ann says, "It's rather an amazing journey when I take the time to look back. When I recorded the two duets with good friend Dennis Marsh for my "I'm Doing Fine" album, I thought back to the time, only a few years before when I was just a country music listener! I was buying up NZ cassettes at one time, and sending them to an email friend in Arizona.
"One of these cassettes was this Dennis Marsh fellow from Patumahoe whom I had never heard of! I listened to him, proudly deemed him great enough to send to my American friend.
"Then just a few years down the track, there I was! Recording two duets with this same, famous NZ artist! And singing on stage with him, and also sharing the street singing with him in Norfolk Island on my first trip there in 2008. Now I have my own band! The journey has been so amazing!"
